Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 17/08/2026Yes! I can't remember exactly now, but color correction in WorldEnv was producing slightly different results than reference (Affinity, where LUT was created). Maybe problem with color space. Custom shader had similar performance and 1:1 color match with Affinity preview. 010
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 17/08/2026I really liked heat haze effect, but it was clipping transparent objects behind it. So I embarked on a week-long journey with post-processing with CompositorEffects. Now I really appreciate simplicity of using regular Godot shaders! #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0103
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 12/08/2026How you going? A* 😒 Flow field 😎 Ofc I had to complicate it with special weights calc on corners. And bilinear interpolation to sample direction for smooth rotations. PS. Good thing DebugDraw3D exists or I would be implementing whole helper drawing lib myself ;) #godot #gamedev #indiedev 091
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 11/08/2026Yes, this is so irritating! And when you see it, you cannot unsee it. 000
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/08/2026VoxelGI on/off Makes a huge difference, especially since there is no directional light, only sky. Performance isn't bad. Regular lights have bigger impact, so lighting and meshes are something to optimize first. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0171
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026It's not "AI" AI. It's system for designing enemy behavior (hence AI, like we have in games from 30 years) but can orchestrate any behavior. And it's visual, in editor. 110
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Nice one! Probably the simplest, but screenshot utility and open saves dir button landed on my TODO list! Thanks for sharing that. There is probably a ton of small tips and tricks like that that are not easily shared in mostly solo-dev / small team indie world... 010
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Yeah, I use tweens by default, easier to manage and orchestrate if you are code-first person. Using AnimationPlayer for imported animations only. Although at some complexity everything is, we'll, complex. Not sure what's your use case, but LimboAI is also great for sequences of animations. 110
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Heh, seeing "animations" just triggered my own frustrations then! ;) 100
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Yeah, I don't understand how people create skeleton-based animations... I get the theory - keyframes etc, but actually making something movement animation that looks good? Do you need motion capture? xD 100
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Many goodies will land in Godot 4.8, my 2 favs from dev 3 build are not in the highlights: 1️⃣ Automatically created default resources for collision shapes, noise, particles, etc. (PR #88647) 2️⃣ Show/hide collision shapes in runtime, no game restart needed! (PR #119816) 000
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 08/08/2026Today's progress: added tower shield effect and unit dissolve. 💡Light flash when shield appears really sells it. No matter what I did in shield shader, without light it just felt fake and not integrated with environment. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0111
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 07/08/2026Pretty happy how the crystals turned out! But I think they still need some juice though. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0111
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 05/08/2026(3/3) At the start I set 0.75 sky energy multipiler (my main source of light) and high VoxelGI bias (almost no shadows). During the animation, I tween sky energy to 1.0 and VoxelGI bias down to 1.5. If you don't look at it specifically, you don't notice the change, but end up with nice shadows! 000
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 05/08/2026(2/3) I started with LightmapGI but couldn't make it work nicely with dynamically animated objects. I've switched to VoxelGI. There, you can modify bias dynamically, basically changing shadows intensity. 100
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 05/08/2026You can almost hear it! (1/3) Lighting was tricky though due to baked shadows - shadows were showing on the ground before any objects pop up so I had to hack it a bit... (continue below) #godot #gamedev #indiedev 161
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 29/07/2026Added spark particles! Just like heat haze, it's subtle. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 061
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 27/07/2026I'm pretty happy how the path turned out! The path mesh is created along Path3D. Mesh consists of square tiles, and shader choses random fragment from the material for each of them, with 1 of 16 stones, randomly rotating it for even greater variety. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 090
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 24/07/2026Not gonna lie, those shader graphs always scared me. Can't you just write code? 😅 But I needed something custom, so I took existing material and went step by step, understanding, simplifying, and adjusting it. And okay, I see the benefits of node graphs! #godot #gamedev #indiedev #MaterialMaker 081
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 22/07/2026body.prevent_wonkiness() and body.prevent_silliness() will be added in Godot 5 😄 110
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 22/07/2026Brazier with heat haze effect above it. Effect is subtle, I don't want it to be distracting, but maybe it should be stronger? WDYT? #godot #gamedev #indiedev 1120
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 22/07/2026In general in programming, good approach is to group by feature, not by type. Google "vertical slice architecture", it works well for game projects as well in my experience. This only relates to code/scenes though. Assets being separate and have their own structure is okay as they are often reused. 100
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 20/07/2026Procedural island mesh generation. Path3D sets the base shape, which is then made more interesting and unique with random irregularities. Bottom disappears in darknes, and edge bevel is cherry on top for low-poly look. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0163

Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 11/05/2026My game colors were blunt and muted, so I overhauled them all at once with Look-Up Tables. It's very effective technique, so I made a 60 seconds tutorial on color grading in Godot using LUT. What do you think? Is it helpful? #godot #gamedev #indiedev 2152
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Those are good comments. Describing not WHAT (this is in code), but WHY. 010
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Maybe it's because I'm coming from backend development, but I can't convince myself to Animation Player... All animations I do are in code, with tweens :D And yes, they are great. 010
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Your original weren't so bad! But yes, delegating to professionals raises the quality. So far, my partner in crime turned out to be pretty good at SFX, despite my initial reservations 😅 Some paid sound packs are good, some are trash, but there is so many that going through them is time consuming... 100
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Your shaders are brilliant, I wish I had a place to use them! Maybe my next game will be 3D... 110
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Deckbuilders Fest is almost over. We launched Cold Decks demo shortly before. We had some uptick in wishlists, despite it being only a free demo. From this occasion, sharing some card graphics by talented Ana Rinray (def checkout www.tumblr.com/ana-rinray-art !) #godot #indiedev #gamedev 062
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 10/05/2026Using VS Code sometimes it's enough to make any change (like add space) and save. VSC is using Godot language server so maybe the behavior is similar and you can try it. 000
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 06/05/2026I didn't want all colors to fight for attention, but afterwards realized my game has muted, eastern-european color palette ;) LUT was quick way to color grade whole game. Do you see difference? I consider making 1 minute "how to" tutorial - is it interesing topic? #godot #gamedev #indiedev 0133
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 05/05/2026Oxygen management is crucial in Cold Decks, but it was easy to not realize your Pioneers are suffocating. I hope it can't be missed now! Still missing a good audio to go with it... #godot #indiedev #gamedev 0124
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 05/05/2026Unity continues to be the best thing that happened to Godot 040
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 02/05/2026I was supposed to check a bug, and then realized I'm just playing the game. I guess this makes the game good for at least one player? #godot #indiedev #gamedev #ScreenshotSaturday 0104

Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 30/04/2026Thanks! Yeah, as someone doing backend development most of the time, presenting your work even to coders is not the most sexy thing... "yeah, so here is an endpoint, you make request from terminal and get response" So doing frontend from time to time was satisfying, but games are yet another level! 110
Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 30/04/2026Every minute spent on (good) dev tools pays off. Here - our map creation visualization. It was invaluable time saver during algorithm creation and later with content design. Everything at a glance, no guessing or launching full game. And it looks cool ;) #godot #indiedev #gamedev 1123

Radzik @radzikowski.com.pl · 21/04/2026Grease - enemies slide on it and fall of the edges. You already have a good color ;) Or the opposite: glue - enemies get stuck to it. Really nice way to alter the environment by the player and give multiple ways of defeating the enemies! 000
