Neolib'm also conditions ppl to accept reduced ind & social agency & autonomy by converting social goods--wch incur public political deliberation & debate--to private purchase choices, where consumers are given alternative products to choose from, but no input on purpose, design or implementation.

Context: inflation under Biden was due to the release of pent-up consumer demand after Covid. Inflation under Trump is due to Trump inflicing economic & social chaos both domestically & internationally. Someone pls make a gif of Trump stepping on his own clownishly long tie & blaming someone else.

When a party or administration abandons rhetorical persuasion as a means of pushing social & cultural change, and shifts to using power to implement social & cultural control, the line between authoritarianism & totalitarianism has been crossed.

Also there's danger the party morphs/is coopted into a mech of social control over ppl. If there's any doubt it can go sideways, think abt MAGA, or any historical fascist or communist party. Networks of decentralized social/vocational, etc. solidarities are less dangerous than 1 hierarchical unity.

What's the trade-off? China stops helping Iran kill Americans and China can take Taiwan? Either way, the U.S. is weaker and China gets stronger because our president is caught in an inescapable psych vortex of his own making, from being thin-skinned, self-aggrandizing, megalomaniacal & a moron.

Unless their GOP opponent touches a third rail, DEM candidates aren't likely to win by outsourcing campaigns to corp management technocrats (PMC?) who overemphasize quantitative methods--fund-raising, polling & efficient ad buys--bc non-extremist & non-elitist constituencies are too diverse.

@nberlat.bsky.social's piece is good, but I think of Trump differently. He doesn't make a moral choice. In fact his cognition never arrives at such a choice bc he is an amoral being--i.e. he believes that, & acts as if, he is not bound by any moral or ethical system, code or standard.

The only productive (but self-serving) outcome Trump has ever achieved thru his own competence or hard work--if sheer repition of hyperbole & lies can be considered competence & hard work--is establishing an unearned reputation for being universally smart, competent & hard working.

I find it disconcerting that Jeffries claims he wants to deliver a gov't of, by & for the people, but he talks and acts like he doesn't want a DEM Party of, by and for the people, i.e. he seems to be prioritizing his position & power as party leader, wch is accruing to him by virtue of seniority.

Trump claims Canada is taking advantage of the US in trade bc the US buys $480B of Canadian goods, while CA buys "only" $420B of US goods. But US GDP is $24T v Canada's $2.2T. So CA's purchases of US goods are 19% of CA GDP, while US purchases of CA goods is only 2% of US GDP. ⬇️

This is a good thread and essay. It reveals Jeffries' contradictictory lies, his compromised political autonomy, & worst, his willingness to gaslight DEM voters, just like a megalomaniac. Left: shows Jeffries is not fit to be leader. Right: gaslighting his constituents & all would be DEM voters.
There’s no reason for Jeffries to meet with Kushner, regardless of whether Kushner asked for this meeting as Jeffriers claims. If he did it to find “common ground” with the Trump Administration, it proves his lack of moral and ethical leadership and confirms every doubt Democratic voters have about him. If he did it to discuss “the affordability crisis” and was, as some liberal voices now claim, was caught in a “trap” by Trump and Kushner, then that only proves his faulty political instincts and means he shouldn’t be Speaker anyway. We began with the mental picture of Jeffries sitting across from Kushner discussing the affordability crisis, and then Jeffries quickly promises “No one is going to get a pass. We’re going to hold every single member of the Trump Cartel accountable.”
Certainly Kushner is part of what Jeffries calls “the Trump Cartel.” How could he not be? So, Jeffries wants us to hold two things in mind at once, no matter how contradictory: he decided to talk to Jared Kushner about possible collaboration while also intending to hold Kushner accountable.

The elevation of D. Graham is a microcosm of conservatism, wch is a methodology, not an ideology. The goal of conservatism is to repair, regenerate & replicate the structures of hierarchy. Part of the methodology is to use existing authority to fill any vacuum of authority, i.e. node in hierarchies.

Concentration of wealth, property, power, authority/status, information/knowledge, etc., makes it easier to violate & betray law, justice, and democracy. If we don't act now, eventually some tech company/bro will claim/have criminal and civil immunity after its AI inflicts material harm.
Quote attributed to Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis: We must make our choice. We may have Democracy or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.

El Sayed: "When it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need...It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours"
The idea that we can assent to the taking away of anybody’s rights, and think that somehow the government won’t come for all of our rights, is itself the problem. And, look, I don’t need people to understand how they use their rights. I just need people to agree that the government shouldn’t be able to take any of our rights. I put my face on the ground thirty-four times a day, David. Most people don’t understand why I do it. I don’t need them to understand. I just want to have the right to do it. And when people decide that they want to take away my right to do that, I’ve got a problem. Now, I hope that everybody’s going to show up and say, No, no, no. You can’t stop that person or that community from reflecting and praying as they choose. Similarly, when it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need. That’s really what it comes down to. It’s the right to be who you are. It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours, then they come for theirs. And at some point you live in a society where rights are negotiable, and that is not the America I was born in. It’s not the America I know and love. It’s not the America I’m going to allow somebody like Donald Trump to give us.
