This was such a perfectly calm, still and peaceful autumn evening with gorgeous green airglow on display. Airglow is caused by sunlight exciting atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere, which then emit light to shed their excess energy. #nz #milkyway #airglow #nightscape #astro

I’m lucky enough to live at the foot of the NZ’s Southern Alps, where there is a network of around 100 huts and bivs. Pictured is Bluff Hut which is one of the darkest places on the planet. So dark that I was able to capture not only the zodiacal light, but the Gegenschein! #astro #nz #milkyway
