As for if HTML is still the way. There are a thousand and one technologies that will help you build websites, ranging from stuff like WIX to coding frameworks. If you want to code your own website instead of using website builders (like WIX or Squarespace) HTML is the place to start.

You could also use github pages, which is simpler but I dont have as much experience using it. I would also look up a tutorial for that.

For hosting, I recommend Cloudflare because it is free aside from the cost of the domain. You will need to set up a github account and cloudflare account. Then link them, buy a domain through Cloudflare, and link the repo (which is free for just pages). I recommend looking for a tutorial for this.

This will allow you to learn what you need to know and not everything that HTML and CSS has to offer because a majority of it will not be useful! It will also avoid getting stuck in just following tutorials and learning nothing!

Try to break the website down into sections and containers. Try to build it again without looking at the website and using google to look up problems (or ask a chat bot). Then, if you are stuck, see how the original developer built it and look up why it works and how each style that you see works.

I then suggest replicating a simple website (I mean really simple). Go to a website and open the developer panel (Ctrl + Shift + I) which will show you the source code and each element (the building blocks of the page) along with the CSS (styling) of each block.

You'll also need a development environment. I suggest VS Code (code.visualstudio.com) with the live-server plugin. This will allow you to code and see the changes immediatly but ONLY ON YOUR COMPUTER. Hosting it is another problem that I'll cover later.
