-people acting as apologists for any club, in this case City, who have been found guilty if egregious charges. That is not an opinion, Mr. Cole & ilk, it is a fact. It is a fact that City have a right to an appeal, a right they have exercised. That does not change the fact that they are, as-

-the EPL should never have permitted nation states to own clubs in the first place; for such is laced with too many risks. The rules have been adjusted each time they "learn" from previous club acquisitions and that has, for example, impacted Newcastle who cannot "do a City". I do get tired of-

-Mr Cole & his ilk miss the point; it's not the actual amount of money the owners invested in City that is the issue; rather, it is the fact this money was disguised as something it wasn't in order to mislead and evade the financial rules that are there to attempt to keep things sustainable that is-

- However, this cannot be used as a pretext to in any way excuse the behaviour of Manchester City or condone the same. They were found guilty of all the substantive charges by an independent panel of appropriately qualified people who judged the case based on the evidence (irrefutable) presented-

So, my take on this is that Joe Cole is conflating two separate points here - one has a certain validity, the other doesn't. The valid point first - the general effect of the financial rules is to broadly cement the position of those clubs at the top of the pyramid; that is reasonably fair. -

-while they are not historians, a quality journo will always form their opinion based on their research and interrogation of fact. Those days are, in the main, long over. Such journalism doesn't sell. So, to people like Mr. Burt, I simply disregard them and provide no bandwidth. A better life.

I have come to appreciate over the years that just because a person has been given a job to write articles for a newspaper does not, of itself, inherently mean that their opinion is actually of any use. We often think of a quality journalist as being one who documents accurately and fairly; -

That's right, Ray. City should do instead what they have been independently proven to be both experienced and expert in - cheating. It's a better recipe for performance.

Wasn't he the guy who said that the day he was lied to, he would be gone? Seems to me the only logical conclusion is that City's ownership must have told him the truth and he was comfortable with it.

Tell you what; I would put a reasonable wager that Arsenal would not be 3-0 down to PSG at half time. But then, Arsenal are not cheats.

I sigh from a professional viewpoint. I'm thoroughly convinced that the human species has the same memory attention span and recollection of a goldfish. I've also been told in the past that I am being grossly unfair to goldfish. Make of this what you will.

-Now, I'm not turning this into a Martinelli discussion, but it is worthwhile comparing how he would have tracked back. It looks like Madueke will get an extended run on the left. He needs to step up further to maintain his place.

-but, I cannot help but feel like he was at fault for Leeds opener. He simply didn't track the player; took a watching brief while the Leeds player had all the time in the world to finish. If I were the manager, that would drive me mad. All the good work undone by a lapse in the non negotiables.-

Lewis, I only saw the highlights, so I can only comment on what they showed. Also, I don't have a prejudged view of Madueke; he strikes me like a player who has a lot of raw or underdeveloped attributes who needs to get the package together, so to speak. He certainly was effective on Saturday-

I've mentioned this before, but Glasgow Rangers went out of business in 2012; a new owner bought the assets & the club started again in the 4th tier of Scottish football. Seems to me that City could, & perhaps should, go the same way. If something like this doesn't happen, EPL credibility is gone.

@philcosta.bsky.social, the second card simply wasn't. On first view, the first one might have been considered a booking, but look at it closely and it seems the City player simulated an injury that simply wasn't there. I've always said that Kavanagh worries me every time he officiates. Not good.

1 - the only team to be found guilty on 113 charges of financial impropriety and cheat their way to league titles and other cups. 1 - a team that is both a stain and an embarrassment to the English Premier League 1 - team owned by a nation state when no sports team should be so owned. Dishonest.

-Man City have been allowed to become a cancer on the game; a poison that threatens the very fabric of the EPL itself. No wonderful play or games won can disguise hard facts. And the fact that the team at Anfield today should not have existed. They must go & their owners must be forced to sell up.
