It's Spooky Season time for a 2-line horror: The author loaded the document he’d spent weeks agonizing over. The cursor blinked back at him from a blank page. 🦔 #twoLineHorror #writingCommunity #spookySeason #amWriting #writersOfBluesky

Fish Out of Plot - Quill Loop Challenge
What happens when you yank your protagonist out of their comfort zone and drop them into the completely wrong story? Take your protagonist - whether they are a hardened noir detective, a burnt-out barista, or a cowboy and drop them into a setting where they absolutely do not belong. How do they survive? What do they say when the rules of physics (or magic) suddenly stop making sense? The Twist: Your main character must retain their original personality, job, and dialogue. Will they survive?

November is the only month when I condone 3 pages of navel-gazing. Thinking about going outside? Realizing how green the grass is? Contemplating the deep existential meaning of a door handle? All in the service of 50k words. 🦔 #NanaimoIsComing #NaNoWriMo #AmWriting #NanaimoChallenge #WritingCom

We often already know what your character saw, and what they heard. But what do they smell? Feel? Taste? "The man was no more than 5 feet from her hiding spot. She looked down and saw a spider, eyes wide she clamped her mouth shut forcing herself not to scream."

Quick Tip Friday: Stop watering down your prose with weak modifiers. "She walked quickly" ➡️ "She sprinted." "He was somewhat cross" ➡️ "He was furious." Stop apologising for your beats. Pick a strong word and own it. #WritingCommunity #WritingTips #AmEditing #AuthorLife 🦔

"Write what you know" is the worst writing advice ever given. You are boring. Drama, car trouble, and getting robbed suck in real life, but they make for great fiction. Stop writing an idealised version of your own life and dare to dream a little. Research the rest later. #WritingCommunity #Writing

"Whatever the plot needs right now" isn't a magic system, it's a Deus Ex Machina wearing a wizard hat. If your magic can do literally anything, your reader will spend the whole book asking "why didn't they just do that in Chapter 1?" Limitations > Power. Even I have rules. #WritingCommunity #A

50 words/day is 1,500 words/month or 18,000+ a year. Not a full novel, but a third of the way there, and better than the zero words you wrote yesterday. A book is a marathon won 50 words at a time. The difference between a dreamer and an author is the tap of the keys. #WritingCommunity #AmWriting 🦔
