Preptober is upon us! How are you preparing for the coming sprint? Are you a meticulous 200-page outline planner, or a pure "YOLO on November 1st" pantser? Either way, the Nanaimo Challenge is coming... 🦔 #preptober #nanaimo #amwriting #writingcommunity

Nothing says heals perfectionism quite like a 1,600-word daily writing goal! Are you participating in NaNoWriMo this year? Where do you tend to write?

Planning and Prepping, got the Cabins open already!

Actually created my own version to do with friends the idea isn't bad, even if the organization behind it made poor decisions.

Work on what will make you happy, and push your writing goals forward, the only judge of what you write is you. Hope I see you in the trenches this November!

Even if the broad strokes are the same, quite often you can take a different approach. I hope your preptober goes well! Hope to see you in the trenches in November.

Words are words! Nothing beats a fanfic written at breakneck speed, and you'll have the honour of saying it was written with both sweat and tears, though hopefully not blood.

Btw, did I mention you can suffer with friends? Pitch a cabin and nudge each other forward. Characters and locations stay at your fingertips too. Preptober starts now; are you ready? #preptober #amWriting

It's Spooky Season time for a 2-line horror: The author loaded the document he’d spent weeks agonizing over. The cursor blinked back at him from a blank page. 🦔 #twoLineHorror #writingCommunity #spookySeason #amWriting #writersOfBluesky

Fish Out of Plot - Quill Loop Challenge
What happens when you yank your protagonist out of their comfort zone and drop them into the completely wrong story? Take your protagonist - whether they are a hardened noir detective, a burnt-out barista, or a cowboy and drop them into a setting where they absolutely do not belong. How do they survive? What do they say when the rules of physics (or magic) suddenly stop making sense? The Twist: Your main character must retain their original personality, job, and dialogue. Will they survive?

November is the only month when I condone 3 pages of navel-gazing. Thinking about going outside? Realizing how green the grass is? Contemplating the deep existential meaning of a door handle? All in the service of 50k words. 🦔 #NanaimoIsComing #NaNoWriMo #AmWriting #NanaimoChallenge #WritingCom

The doc doesn't care about your excuses, and your characters literally can't...unless you write them to. 5 minutes. 5 words. 5 times a day. Even the busiest person can manage that. Open the doc. 🦔 #AmWriting #WritingCommunity #AuthorLife #WritersOfBluesky #MicroGoals

This is the single best technique when it comes to editing too, though sometimes it does lead to cringy moments of "Past me, what on earth were you thinking"

The single best piece of writing advice is the most obvious: "Just write." The second? "Your first draft is going to suck, and that's okay." Showing up is 90% of the job. 🦔

Never underestimate the power of the shower thought. Second only to the classic strategy of mashing keys until a plot point accidentally makes sense. Glad the final chapter is unblocked! Now get it on the page. 🦔

You know what isn't writing your novel? Spending 3 hours researching how an LED flashes hundreds of times per second to show dimming (Yes, I know you just looked that up; no, you should not have). Now write. 🦔 #research #amWriting #authorLife
