come to think of it. this just might be how shin-ryoku looks in a broader nib since previously I’d only used it with finer nibs. idk I shall write and see

I actually went with sui-gyoku first before deciding to use shin-ryoku instead, and then I was too impatient to let the pen fully dry in-between cleanings so now the ink that comes out is a sort of mix between the two, at least until the last of the sui-gyoku runs out. but I like the effect lol

—so after work I syringed out the remaining ink from the cartridge, transferred it into a 5ml vial, and then cheerfully inked up my now empty pen with Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku. and now I’m excited to actually use this pen lol

it is mostly the fault of the jetpens youtube channel, though. that channel got me back into journaling in May, & while I didn’t seek out fountain pen content specifically, there are only so many oblique references to fountain pens I can experience before I start getting the itch to try one myself

in hindsight, there may be a sort of subconscious correlation between the release of the Witch Hat Atelier anime & my newfound interest in fountain pens. not a direct one-to-one correlation (since I can pinpoint several more concrete reasons), but I wouldn’t discount WHA’s influence entirely lol

—but now that I’ve cleaned it and inked it and am actually using it properly, it writes SO well. The EF nib size doesn’t skip at all, even with my fast scrawly handwriting. I’d like to try a broader nib size next time to see if that’d be smoother but god is it fun to write with

I understand the Pilot Kakuno hype now. I got my kakuno before I knew anything about fountain pens so I had gotten it in a really fine nib size (absolutely not my usual preference) & also abandoned it for months after the cartridge dried out because I didn’t know how to clean it—
