galactic racer is so fun, it's like Burnout, Motorstorm, and WipeOut had a crazy threesome and slay the spire was also there in the cuck chair being like "yes i love it when other, bigger games use my branching path map thing in a rougelite mode" and this process somehow made a baby with all of them

thomas the tank engine you'd think it would be because of the creepy and unsettling train faces (which didn't help) but it was actually because one time Percy crashed and spilled fruit and my child brain translated this to "Percy fucking died on television and they showed his guts spilling out"

9. Limbo - Limbo made me feel unsettled in a way no game I'd played before really had. If Portal is the game that made me appreciate unique mechanics, Limbo is the one that made me appreciate sheer vibes. Mechanically, it's a simple enough puzzle platformer, but god damn it had *atmosphere* to it.

8. Titanfall 2-The campaign is a delight start to finish, the movement is fun as fuck, and it's one of the few games where I actually stuck with the multiplayer for a while. After I played this it just made me sad that every FPS I played after it wasn't this. Let me wall run Give me grappling hooks

7. Bloodborne I adore the vibes of this world and enemy designs, but it also has a special place in my heart as the one that made souls-like games click. I bounced off of Dark Souls and Demon Souls, but the way Bloodborne forces you to play aggressively made it all finally make sense in my brain.

6. Metal Gear Solid 4 This was the first MGS game I played and it's a wild series to start at the end. It's weird and confusing even *with* context, so I was lost the whole time but I had a blast and went back and played the rest of the series. the way ocelot says "BROTHER!" is still a vocal stim

4 & 5. Burnout 3/Motorstorm More stand-ins for their respective series, these games are different enough that they get their own entries, but their influence was the same; my taste in racing games and my taste in music. If a racing game doesn't have a boost button or let me wreck I don't want it.

3. Advance Wars - one of my first and favorite GBA games, it was my first taste of turn based strategy and it's still one of my favorites. Every turn-based strategy I try out I'm always comparing it to Advance Wars and then being sad when it's not like Advance Wars (except WarGroove, they nailed it)

2. Portal - Also a stand-in for the series as Portal 2 is also an important game to me, but Portal 1 deserves special recognition because it gave me a lasting appreciation for games that do something interesting, do it well, and don't drag on. And the writing affects my sense of humor to this day.
