On 19 June, 1900 CEST, Multimedia Institute in Zagreb will host a discussion about vectoralism, an economic system based on vector: the commodification of information, and how it is processed, transmitted & stored. What can hackers do to take back control? Sign up and join us at: luma.com/0z46lm2r
Event poster with the following text:

Vectors — Perspectives of Digital Culture
On Vectoralism and How to Deal With It

When: Friday, June 19th 2026, 19:00
Where: Klub MaMa, Preradoviceva 18, Zagreb Event description:

In 2004, writer and theorist McKenzie Wark published A Hacker Manifesto, a seminal work that describes an economic system based on the commodification of information, and the control and ownership of “vector” – the means by which information is transmitted, processed and stored.

With the dawn of generative AI and the new internet-driven industrial revolution, what is unfolding around us increasingly resembles Wark’s description of the world. The relentless commodification and control of data has allowed the vectoralist class to command growing aspects of everyday life, pushing the world to the brink. Yet, the infrastructure that makes all of that tick is built on the backs of the hacker class.

Generative AI, eroding labor rights, and the emerging data economy are only some of the symptoms of this transformation. Will we become beholden to the current political and economic systems of power? What can the hacker class do to take back ownership of vectors and the means of production in this digital age?

We will explore these questions in Vectors – Perspectives of Digital Culture, a discursive program starting with a study on vectoralism, a concept introduced by Wark in A Hacker Manifesto. The group talk is led by an international team consisting of (in alphabetical order):

ai carmela netîrk – anarchafeminist lofemme translesbian psyborg hacker migrant mycorrhizal mediatrix. Writer, historian, historiographer, videographer, editor, livestreamer, vision mixer, system administrator. Trained in the square occupations of 15M, Occupy Wall Street and Gezi Commune, after the vectoralist global counterrevolution she focused her energies in separatist transfeminist spaces.

Have no fear, 'cause I iz here.

Unfortunately, this disappearance was not a false alarm. A few of us were arrested on the evening of 16 March, and all but one person was released on bail on the 18th. I am doing alright myself, although some were traumatized by the experience.

We will need some time to rest, decompress and consider our legal options. I will provide more details about what transpired when we are able to do so.

Thank you all for your concern & support!

Welp. I have encountered a Acer Swift 3 SF314-42 laptop which enforces secure boot by default AND where the UEFI setup menu for security options have been greyed out. I was trying to install Alpine Linux, but seems like I have to make a bootable USB with the shim to get it to boot. Interesting.
Screen with a shield and padlock above it, along with the text: "Security Boot Fail"UEFI menu options for security settings greyed out completely and cannot be modified

The QRTs to @chloetankahhui.bsky.social shows the extent of naivety that a lot of people have. No one who does hardware security believes that any system is bulletproof, but do you really think that circumventing these things will always be a simple firmware mod or hardware hack? Let's dive in. /1
Screenshot of Chloe's tweet:

people saying "they can't force Linux to do age verification!! it's open source!!" are being incredibly naive

the next step is locking bootloaders/BIOS at the hardware level and every computer only capable of running approved OSes with age verification

I had been working on a project for #39C3, sadly manufacturing and shipping got severely delayed and it didn't arrive on time (I cri), but here goes anyway: This is Deadflash. A flash drive with a ESP32-P4 as a controller. Why bother making a flash drive, and a very expensive one at that? A 🧵

How to start a fight among developers today:
A snippet from a document included with Amdahl UTS UNIX titled: "UTS for beginners" by Brian W. Kernighan

14.2 PROGRAMMING IN C

If you are undertaking anything substantial, C is the only reasonable choice of programming language: everything in UTS is tuned to it. The system itself is written in C, as are most of the programs that run on it. It is also a remarkably easy language to use once you get started. C is introduced and fully described in The C Programming Language, (|4|). Volume 2 of the manual describes the system interfaces, that is, how you do I/O and similar functions. Read UTS Programming. for more complicated things.

Most input and output in C is best handled with the standard I/O library, which provides a useful set of I/O functions. In general. it’s wisest to confine the system interactions in a program to the facilities provided by this Library.

There are a number of supporting programs that go with C. Lint(1) checks C programs for potential portability problems, and detects errors such as mismatched argument types and uninitialized variables.

i get this question a lot, and fortunately there are many things we can do and people are already doing. it's developing open source software. it's finding and patching security flaws. it's creating alternative infrastructure so we're less dependent on big tech 1/3
screenshot of a tweet that quotes a tweet by Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz).

Taylor's original tweet reads:
Leftists refusing to fight some of the most dangerous tech policy of our time while simultaneously complaining about the growing influence of big tech is very frustrating. We need to kill KOSA and these 11 state age verification laws now

the tweet quoting Taylor's tweet reads:
I need to ask this seriously but when people say "leftists need to fight back against x" I really do need to know what the expectation is. Start your own tech company to defeat the other tech companies in the industry? Or torch something?

it wasn't that long ago that hacker ethic was defined in ways with an anarchist bent and while this ethic was not perfect, it is very rare in hacker circles today bc of deliberate depoliticization that detached it from the rest of the world let's make hacking radical again!!
screenshot from the Wikipedia article on hacker ethic. it reads:

1. "Access to computers—and anything which might teach you something about the way the world works—should be unlimited and total. Always yield to the Hands-On Imperative!"
Levy is recounting hackers' abilities to learn and build upon pre-existing ideas and systems. He believes that access gives hackers the opportunity to take things apart, fix, or improve upon them and to learn and understand how they work. This gives them the knowledge to create new and even more interesting things.[12][13] Access aids the expansion of technology.screenshot from the Wikipedia article on hacker ethic. it reads:

2. "All information should be free"
Linking directly with the principle of access, information needs to be free for hackers to fix, improve, and reinvent systems. A free exchange of information allows for greater overall creativity.[14] In the hacker viewpoint, any system could benefit from an easy flow of information,[15] a concept known as transparency in the social sciences. As Stallman notes, "free" refers to unrestricted access; it does not refer to price.[16]screenshot from the Wikipedia article on hacker ethic. it reads:

3. "Mistrust authority—promote decentralization"
The best way to promote the free exchange of information is to have an open system that presents no boundaries between a hacker and a piece of information or an item of equipment that they need in their quest for knowledge, improvement, and time on-line.[15] Hackers believe that bureaucracies, whether corporate, government, or university, are flawed systems.

World's largest single semiconductor chip with unprecedented computing power, which transforms the artificial intelligence (Al) landscape.

Manufactured by TSMC's leading 16nm FinFET technology, the WSE contains more than 1.2 trillion transistors and is 46,225 square millimeters, which is more than 56 times larger than any chip previously built. It provides more silicon area for more Al optimized compute cores, reducing the time to "train" complex Al models. This allows researchers to test more ideas, use more data, and solve new problems.
