Hey @sethmoulton.bsky.social I want you to remember this. You’re a late to the party, excuse waving spineless centrist cosplaying as the resistance, and there are a hundred reasons why you lost, but pissing off mothers of trans girls is what did you the fuck in. Remember what I said.
A white woman with long brown hair in a black jacket and brown skirt speaking to a taller white man in a blue suit. The man’s posture is somewhat slouched, and his hands are clasped close to his crotch, perhaps as protection or capitulation. They are standing in a large hall or cafeteria with many people milling around behind them, and one person holding a camera opposite the person that took this photo.

The data doesn't lie & our report makes it plain: fare-free transit is essential to building more connected communities, improving mobility, & making life more affordable. Congress must pass my Freedom to Move Act with @markey.senate.gov to support fare-free transit everywhere.

More posters went up today! This soggy one is from last week but it’s still fine. #streetart #nemiksmanifesto
A white paper poster on a silver lamp post. Below the text is a stylized illustration of a peacock. The text, formatted in paragraphs in a font that kinda vaguely matches the style of the illustration, is Nemik’s Manifesto from the Star Wars series Andor.

I’ve been pretty quiet online lately but I’m still out here doing stuff.
Photo of a black and white poster on a street post. The poster reads “all you had to do was pay us enough to live” and shows a line art guillotine overlaid on a drawing of an old-timey city street.

You’re not overreacting. I want justice too and I hate that it may never happen. I hate that it feels like good people are always being out organized and evil keeps winning. I hope you don’t lose your access to joy in all this. Not every moment of every day, but little moments between it all.

Even this post is proving it. We started with fonts and now we’re here. Isn’t it crazy? Isn’t it unfair? But at least we have Times New Roman.

That’s Calibri’s crime in their eyes. Not that it’s ugly, or unbalanced, or childish. The crime is it made them think about which font they were going to use. Yet another THING they have to THINK ABOUT. 9/?

If the move off Calibri was to another sans serif font option, I would be elated. But that would have taken consideration and care. They would’ve had to weigh the universality of Noto against the ubiquity of Arial. Open Sans vs Roboto, Lato vs Libre… 7/?

When it comes to typography choices, there really is a lot to think about. Does it convey timeliness or trendiness? Urgency? Fun? Professionalism? Nostalgia? If you don’t think about it and just choose things at random, you risk saying things you didn’t mean to. 5/?

That said, it was past time to move our defaults to sans serif. The choices we make with typography matter. Accessibility matters. Visual communication matters. And there are hundreds if not thousands of options to get bogged down in and angles to consider. 4/?

I hate the quasi roundness of the corners. I don’t like the angles of any of the bpdq letters. I don’t think a sans serif should have a double story g or dropped numbers. There’s no excuse for l/I confusion in a sans serif this rounded. Give l a tail you bastards 2/?

Ok so here’s the thing. I am a Calibri hater. I think it was a terrible pick for the Microsoft default and they did too because look how quickly they switched off to Aptos. I have good reasons not to like it as a serious business font choice 1/?
