Pretend I’m Not Home by Paula Praeger

 No bitter aftertaste for me.
I’ve cried there in the bathroom
 or gone home to sob alone;
 strained to belong, even enjoy,
 while hefting anguish, dense,
 dense mud weighing me down.

 Trace my scorching history,
 belonging/not belonging.

I Haven’t Made It Home Yet:
pwritersu.com/IHMIHYPaula Praeger (she/her) is an artist and a writer. Her prints have been exhibited in the United States and abroad. She has contributed artwork to literary magazines, and her poems were published in Hindsight, Cancer, Months to Years, Close Up, Visible Ink Anthologies, The Poetry Distillery, Crab Creek Review, Sad Girls Club and Humans of the World blogs.

self-sabotage for the ever-changing by c. engström

there is a piece of time

ten inches of snow up their doorstep.

Just This Once by Sean Cahill

I remember stopping in my tracks, cocking my head, and staring in wonder at its blue neon sign:
      THE GLIMMER ROOM
Above the name, a neon bottle tipped back and forth on a loop, endlessly pouring into the letter M, which was stylized to resemble a martini glass. I remember wondering how strange it was that I’d walked by here so many times and never noticed this place.

The kids are privileged. They’re warm in bed.
Every night I think: let them get old.
Let them see the snow, let them breathe
the cool air even when it's cold enough
it hurts to breathe. Wrapped in cotton, dreaming,
not asleep, thinking that I want
to breathe again.

Portraits of Home A. Riel Regan

English ivy creeps over your bedroom window, home to wasps in the summer. Kudzu clings to old black barn wood. Wisteria strangles cherry and pine. They built a fence just too late to keep you in.

I Haven’t Made It Home Yet
pwritersu.com/IHMIHYA. Riel Regan (they/them) is a queer, disabled author of poetry and fiction with an intense appreciation for “the human heart in conflict with itself,” as Faulkner said. Their writing deals with themes of inner conflict, chronic illness, knowing oneself through nature, and interpersonal strife. Their poetry has been featured in Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, the Kentucky State Poetry Society’s Pegasus, Emerge Literary Journal, The Forgotten Writer, new words, Exist Otherwise, THE YELLING CONTINUES, and Impossible Task. When not writing or reading, they find themselves killing half their houseplants and boldly defending the other half from their cat.

You can measure signal-to-noise ratios on fiber optics

who are trying to sneak in, steal that wire, sell it
so they can afford to trick out their pickups,
roll coal down the alleys of your brain.

The homogenisation and consolidation of buisinesses and brands has led to the erosion of the midlist, the indie movie or band or comic. There's a real sense of "I'll only try media that's already popular / famous," and I'm begging you to look for the weird shit, the experimental, the niche.
