iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Maybe @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social folks would like to know, but I came across this spreadsheet compare of Rolling Stone 500 lists (this is the 2020 list compared to 2012 & yellow I own) Here are 1988, 89, 2000, 01 albums in that list (the error values on the right were not ranked in 2012)

1988, 1989, 2000, 2001 albums in the RS 500 2020 ranking

Strokes may need a newsletter phenomenon here. It’s sideways for them early on

Two albums I’d tired of in the intervening 25 yrs from then till now. One of Bob Dylan’s most famous bootlegs is titled Thin Wild Mercury. I love that phrase and when I think of how that sounds/what that means, The White Stripes feral DIY-ness comes to mind, so there’s my vote.

If you’re thinking oh well if Wilco loses we’ll try again for 2002, you can’t. If you’re a 2002 truther and not voting for that reason, not sure there’s any pride in sending an album you like to a loss over that. Summerteeth was seeded #2 and upset by the 10-seed in 1999. Avenge that here.

People are such thumb-sucking babies about music they don’t like.

Cinderella is slipping away but this was a reaction to DBT’s last upset and I think it’d be pretty funny if it happened again. If you’re on the fence or indifferent, let’s make some folks big mad

This is also where MLB has gone, abandoning any focus on the Black community, who comprise a third of roster shares today of what they had 40 years ago.

We can do this again! I didn’t think we would do it last match or the match before Perhaps Is This It felt like the better album in 2001, but it’s 2026 and frankly, it’s apples and oranges here. I was right when the initial parade was rolling out, Southern Rock Opera is the best album of 2001

Saw a post about the literal decline of batting average and of its importance to metrics. The latter has always assumed OPS is king but ignores OBP & SLG are lower w/ lower BA. BB aren’t up. HR are but 2B and 3B aren’t. Ks…way up, which lower all of BA, OBP, & SLG. So yeah, you still need to hit!

Early returns indicate I fucked this 4/5 matchup just like last tourney (only by picking the opposite seed)

All the Zelda news is overwhelming and awesome this morning. Ocarina of Time 11/5/26, orchestral tour beginning Feb 2027, and live action film 4/30/27

Cómo estás, bitches This helped my bracket a bit

Not shocked at what’s winning but shocked at how bad of a beat down it is. And chuckling at our morphing into crotchety boomer rock critics with all the zeppelin references

041

We did it….we REALLY DID IT!

251

Less than 10 to make it right

031

Less than 30 min and DBT down 2 now, let’s turn that around and rectify this underseeding

Wow it’s tied! Keep the DBT rally going!

Box 1 of my most recent Discogs haul. Complaint: Discogs sellers are way more lenient on their condition grading. This is the third CD I’ve gotten from there where the booklet was evidently at one time soaked and is now wavy with pages stuck together.

Hall & Oates - Abandoned Luncheonette
Saint Etienne - Tales From Turnpike House
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
The Wonder Stuff - HUP
New Ridera of the Purple Sage - s/t
Ass Ponys - The Known Universe
The Posies - Failure
Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain
Alice Cooper - School’s Out
The Wonder Stuff - The Eight Legged Groove Machine
Dexys Midnight Runners - Too Rye Ay

This week was hoping to get some conversation going about other albums by the remaining artists (the most recent ones in most cases) rather than the same old tourney ones, so thoughts on The Strokes Reality Awaits! Gorillaz’ The Mountain! This DBT album I didn’t know existed! Fire away!

000

The vote is close and not one person has commented here they’re voting Gorillaz

I posted this last week knowing the throwing muses’ debut is turning 40 this year (there’s a method to the nerdiness), but didn’t think to look up release dates. Happy birthday, great album! anthony-is-writing.ghost.io/throwing-mus...

A treasured reminder that major labels hawked weird rock well before Nirvana.

We’re having a wee celebration. Have a read below. I couldn’t be more fucking proud of Kirsty. She’s the UK representative at the International Print Exhibition for the second year running.

Doing some early listening for Mondays matchup write up and I love this fucking song. And turns out I have basically the same dance moves as Jenny Lewis m.youtube.com/watch?v=CiU_...

Kind of disappointed that Gillian Welch was only ever really fine to me. Spoon is great. Every album. Including this one.

Pee pee poo poo I voted for Wilco. Nearly 200 votes in just 2 hours!
