Been playing a few games of the solo mode this week, and while I'm a bit bummed that it's a BYOS mode with no scoring goals, it at least has a win/loss condition of completing enough goals each play. Otherwise, it's quite a fun puzzle of a city building game!

As is the game! It really is the perfect blend of simple enough to teach to a beginner but then also enough complexity/depth to continue to be interesting. The super cute Sai Beppu art certainly doesn't hurt either, lol.

Finally, had a little bit of extra time at the end of the day, so looked for something quick to play, and ended up playing my first game of Time to Panic from IV Studios. Had quite a bit of fun with it crushing my brain with its interesting card tableau manipulation puzzle.

Came in second with 27 points by scoring a bunch on betting, but we all got absolutely crushed by one of my students who won with 51 points! Was excited to also finally get to use my @saibep.bsky.social ghost coins for something as well!

Then in my after school class, I introduced the kids to ladder climbing/shedding games, playing a full six person game of @tricktaking.bsky.social Bested Another Time! This game continues to be great, and with 6 players, it adds in a fun betting system as well, as a second way to score points.

Spent the day playtesting the next game in Steven Aramini's flip and write series, Flip Dungeon! It's a two part game where you spend the first part in town equipping and building out your character and then the second part down in the dungeon fighting baddies.

Been finally slowly diving in to the Star Trek Captains Chair To Boldly Go expansion, and remembering how much I loved the original box. Have done botless games with Georgiou and Soval, plus a bot game as Gergiou vs Soval. Next up playing as Soval vs. bot Georgiou!

Alright, Cloverland with Brownies is a definite keeper, my son asks to play pretty much every night. Played with the advanced buildings today and will likely never again play without them. They add some nice extra scoring options and variability.

Today was our first of two days focused on deck builders in my after school class, with the kids playing Fliptoons and Summer Camp (we'll swap next week). I joined in with the Summer Camp group, coming in second to one of the students who ended by saying, "Huh, maybe I'm good at this!".

Played my first game of Cloverland with Brownies with my son tonight, and his first response was that he wants to play it every night, lol. Fun tile layer with the Puerto Rico follow action selection mechanism. Excited to try out some of the other buildings.

Having access to a second washback so you can distill two spirits in a round is powerful, and the new addition of special customers to sell to as well as all the cocktail stuff adds some nice alternative options in the game.

Couple days and several plays into Excursion, and yeah, definitely gives Galactic Cruise vibes in a much smaller and quite shorter experience. Plus the Puerto Rico style action following with bonuses for the active player works very well. Solo mode is smooth and seems to be quite competitive too!

Next, my son and I got back to the Lego Ninjago game, failing again on the fourth (of six) scenario. A lot of it comes down to luck of randomness, but boy did the difficulty ramp up from scenario three to four.

Got a bunch of games played yesterday! First up was continued play of the upcoming Dale of Merchants solo mode, finishing off the decks in box 5, only two more games to try out box 6 and I will have tried everything! So far really enjoying the solo mode, and it's generally very close at the end.
