New video up on the channel! This week I took a preview look at the upcoming JRPG in a vid, Bôken! If you are a fan of JRPGs at all, this is a campaign you need to check out. Gonna definitely be a top game of the year for me this year! youtu.be/cshlPnRtfd0

Today was our first of two days focused on deck builders in my after school class, with the kids playing Fliptoons and Summer Camp (we'll swap next week). I joined in with the Summer Camp group, coming in second to one of the students who ended by saying, "Huh, maybe I'm good at this!".

2 days left to grab all my solo games on sale!

Played my first game of Cloverland with Brownies with my son tonight, and his first response was that he wants to play it every night, lol. Fun tile layer with the Puerto Rico follow action selection mechanism. Excited to try out some of the other buildings.

Finished my first game of Distilled with Cocktails, and yeah, it's a beast, but the additions are pretty cool!

Couple days and several plays into Excursion, and yeah, definitely gives Galactic Cruise vibes in a much smaller and quite shorter experience. Plus the Puerto Rico style action following with bonuses for the active player works very well. Solo mode is smooth and seems to be quite competitive too!

All set up for my first game of Excursions tomorrow. Digging what I've seen so far, including the Puerto Rico style action follow mechanism with the somewhat distilled pieces from Galactic Cruise.

Another new amazing music find, Father of Peace. Real System of a Down vibes in this one, but super range over their other songs and every one of them is great. Can't wait for the full album in two more days! youtu.be/rE9NWhuWKOs?...

Today's focus for my after school class, closed drafting! Taught the kids Sushi Go Party and 7 Wonders and fun was had by all! Also managed to lose both games (one by only 1 point!), so a win for the kids as well!

Also finished out the day with a quick game of Minecraft Explorers at the request of my son. Ended up as a loss, but we were only one or two turns away from a win...

Open drafting day in my after school class, joined one group in Ticket to Ride San Francisco and Point Galaxy, both very fun games. Came in second on both, losing by 1-2 points each time.

Then finished off my night with my first play of one of the Cascadia roll/flip and writes. Wasn't expecting a whole lot going in, but I picked it up as an extra on a trade, so figured I'd give it a shot, and I'm actually quite digging what I've seen so far.

Next, my son and I got back to the Lego Ninjago game, failing again on the fourth (of six) scenario. A lot of it comes down to luck of randomness, but boy did the difficulty ramp up from scenario three to four.

Got a bunch of games played yesterday! First up was continued play of the upcoming Dale of Merchants solo mode, finishing off the decks in box 5, only two more games to try out box 6 and I will have tried everything! So far really enjoying the solo mode, and it's generally very close at the end.

Spent the day building rainbows in @steelwinggames.bsky.social Rainbow Blvd today, in prep for an upcoming preview video. Still enjoying the set collection/contract fulfillment aspect and how it mixes with the interesting market values that tie into a second layer of contract fulfillment.

Followed YRO up with my first game of The Hobbit roll and write with Mark Outten's automated opponent. Been really digging the game, but the official BYOS didn't really do anything for me, so was excited to try it out.

Day of unofficial solo modes today, starting off with two games of YRO, once with quests and once without. The solo in the rulebook is bad to the point that the publisher told me don't bother, but then I discovered the designer had his own solo mode posted to BGG, so I decided to try it out.

Been getting into the Hobbit roll and write game this week, played my first game of the second chapter today with my son and his friend. Really digging the spatial puzzle of this one and so far it's been pretty cool how things change from chapter to chapter. It's also a very pretty game.

Been a while since I've discovered a new band that caught my attention so quickly, but this just popped up in my YouTube suggestions and it's great. They're a German sort of emocore/post-hardcore band. youtu.be/ToPhA3HcpAA?...

Fun mail day for me as well! Got contacted to do a preview of the next game in this series and they decided to send me this one as well since I hadn't played it either. Looks like a very cool escape room in a box that uses a pop up book mansion to solve several cases.

Got contacted on BGG today to see if I might be interested in covering Master of Coin, the new coin flipping PnP game from @postmarkgames.bsky.social, and I immediately dove in, scoring a decent 78 points on my first go. Definitely enjoying what I've seen so far, expect a video soon!

Played my first two sessions of Bōken with my son for a preview and it's pretty amazing. Not sure it could feel any more like a JRPG than it does, and that is exactly the hope I had going in. And the save system/magnetic boards are chef's kiss perfect. Very excited to play more of it!

Got my new copy of Trifle to the table today with my son, as his introduction to trick taking. It's a very simple may follow game, where you're scoring the value of the cards you win in your tricks, with the twist that the highest card, the Q, is not a number so is worth 0.

Played my first game of Walking in Kamogawa from Emperor S4. The rules are a bit rough (the Japanese rules are a bit better), but it's a pretty fun tile laying, set collection game with some interesting scoring mechanisms, that also seems to play pretty well solo!
