Bislang ist noch nicht bekannt, wie lange eine Person, die sich mit dem Coronavirus infiziert hat, ansteckend ist. Laut Robert Koch-Institut gilt es derzeit aber als sicher, dass Infizierte in der Zeit kurz vor und nach Symptombeginn am ansteckendsten sind, auch schon bevor erste Symptome auftreten. Bei einem milden bis mittleren Krankheitsverlauf geht die Ansteckungsfähigkeit zehn Tage nach Symptombeginn deutlich zurück. Bei schweren Krankheitsverläufen und bei Vorliegen einer Immunschwäche können Betroffene auch noch erheblich länger als zehn Tage nach Symptombeginn ansteckend sein.
