after reading two highly acclaimed short story books in the last 2 months, I realized I’m not into short stories. gimme them character arcs.

I recently saw some reel about love languages and the first thought that came to my mind was someone going through the effort of looking at my Goodreads list and gifting me a book lol

I've found that reading gripping novels is the only effective way for me to stop doomscrolling. So anyway I've read 12 novels in 2025 so far.

While you probably know me best from my work in Developer Relations, did you know I’ve also been a great sales engineer? If your company is looking for a new sales engineer/solutions architect with experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or related areas, I might be just who you need!

Read good fiction books to repair yourself. Consume and create good art and send notes to people whose art you love. Drink water daily. Sometimes stop for a sec during your day, look up at the universe and marvel at the laws of probability that allowed you to be alive to enjoy it. Eat Nutella.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

it’s so cool to be getting real-time updates on new product features as they’re being rolled out through the product itself. the kinda meta phenomenon that’s wholesome.

📚 I read 54 books in 2024, here are a few I would recommend and why 1. How to Take Smart Notes: it’s fascinating learning the history of how someone pulled together information across disciplines due to his note taking. I tried this way of working and it’s not a perfect fit, but I learned a lot.

Instead of "I apologize for the delay," write "thank you for your patience." In lieu of "sorry for the oversight," write "if you're so perfect, why don't you fu*king do it, Marsha." Follow me for more etiquette tips. 😁

A mug which reads:
I came, I saw,
I forgot what
I was doing.
Went back,
Got distracted,
And have no idea,
Whats going on
Is this my cup?

Stop saying that one programming language is better than another. It all depends what you want to do. When you want to fight with a borrow checker, use Rust. When you want to guess which esoteric tsconfig some lib requires, try TypeScript. When you feel like yelling at a package manager, do Python.

I’ve been coding since I was 8 years old. I often code on nights and weekends and I just… love it. I also have had a hard time feeling wrong for doing so because I keep hearing about work/life balance from folks and how I shouldn’t. I wrote a blog post about this tension. tej.as/blog/coding-...

one thing I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is how one of my biggest hindrances of having a decent social life is not that I’m awkward but it’s that I see the awkwardness as a problem. I’m slowly trying to get into the practice of being okay with the awkwardness.

Small data teams have two realistic choices: 1. Take the (helpful!) approach @randyau.com describes in this screenshot 2. Spend an inordinate amount of time engaging in polite fictions Engaging in some polite fictions is required in any job, but ideally doesn't constitute the team's entire role
Since I'm not good at doing any of that, the way I tend to approach "big projects" is to break them down into useful self-contained chunks that have these properties:

The chunk of work is small enough to deliver sorta/kinda quickly so that people don't get annoyed that I've run off for a year
The chunk is valuable on its own merits, even if it subsequent chunks don't ever get built
The chunk is potentially useful for other projects, it's not solely tied within the big project

it is crazy how most times, the key to building a robust system is to just think of different ways it can fail so that we can build it to be as less prone to these failures as possible. such a simple exercise but it took me a few years of working to truly imbibe this way of thinking.
