“Death is but a part of life: fear it not, evade it not, and view it not as evil."

Aunae's voice, soft yet resonant, seemed to fill the air with a heavy stillness.

They turned their unblinking, calm gaze toward the weary adventurers. "It is inescapable, and its inviting touch will greet you nonetheless, for mortal souls lack the strength to navigate the dark, twisting path that the gods have predestined each of us to travel. All wander through life, ultimately arriving at the same destination."

With fluid elegance, they stepped over the husked corpse, carrying its head with them, their gaze unwavering as it remained fixed on the others.

"It is that embrace which I welcome without question, even in my darkest moments of despair, yet they see fit to give me the tools to alleviate what stands in my way. Yes, it was indeed me, but as to how—I cannot explain. I simply do. That is all."

It was an odd and lengthy reply that provoked more questions than it answered, but the drow's honesty was undeniable, and there was no hint of deceit in their eyes as they spoke, their gaze eventually settling on Wyll now.

"Death speaks to me. I merely listen.”

“It was you then,” Gale said to Aunae. “My apologies for the second time again to Frans and Wyll.” He felt the burning sensation of shame and embarrassment as he kept his head down.

“Next time, you’ll listen.” Wyll said to Gale before turning his gaze back to Aunae. “As for you, I will be keeping my eye on you. Any chance of harm towards these refugees or the rest of us, and I will not hesitate to deliver your death wish.”

(Totally didn’t steal Kelemvor’s line lol)

"You flatter me greatly, warlock. To die by your hands would be an honor." The smile on Aunae's face was genuine and charming, yet in a morbid way as they accepted the terms without resistance. They giggled, as if sharing an inside joke with a dear friend. A moment of silence hung before they added, their voice silky and unintentionally sultry. "You have soft hands which would feel divine around the throat, yes? Not to mention, your stunning ruby gaze would be the last I see—a gift unlike any other. A beautiful end, and for that, you would have my eternal gratitude."

The silence returned, only to be shattered by their vampiric companion.

"Oh, I like you even more now, darling. A handful in bed, I’m sure," Astarion chimed in, joining in the laughter with a lightness that masked the tension in the room.

"They're insane. Bloody feckin' insane," Frans groaned under his breath, resisting the urge to rub his aching temples.

The next words that left Aunae’s mouth had Wyll utterly speechless. His gaze was locked onto them, a deep blush forming on his cheeks, masked by the soft, chocolaty tone of his gorgeous skin. There was no movement from him as the drow’s words sang like a sensual melody. Had he been petrified? Were those words some kind of spell? No.

Wyll had never received such a compliment, if it could even be called that. He did take pride in his hands, making sure to take of them, and it was about time someone noticed.

I can do much more with my hands, he thought before chasing the thought away. Lascivious fool! Fraternizing with the enemy! Halsin would be…No…Karlach would have your head!

The sound of Astarion’s abrupt comment and laughter had pulled the warlock out of his inner turmoil to the matter at hand. He steadied himself and put on a mask of confidence.

“Prove me wrong, for I do not wish to show you such a gratitude.” He held their gaze for a moment longer, taking in the shape of their plump lips.

At the invitation, Wyll took a few cautious steps forwards, making sure to leave room for the others to enter just in case things went awry. Having the extra backup would be helpful just in case this was a trap.

Once Aku entered the room, there was no trace of recognition as she looked at the Drow curiously. There was no way for her to tell if friend or foe.

“New friend of yours, Frans? Are you the presumed warden or was that him?” Wyll said, nodding towards the severed head.

Gale caught a glimpse of the head, closed his eyes, and turned away. He made his way over to Frans, standing protectively by his side. His darkened eyes gazed around the room, observing the various knickknacks strewn about.

Aku approached the table and looked at the head before picking it up. She examined it in different angles before her mouth started to water when she saw the chunks of meat where his head was once connected to his neck.

What a fine stew this would make. Wouldn’t it?

Shut up!

She placed the head back on the table and stepped back towards Astarion, bumping into his chest.

“This is quite the operation you’ve here. Tell me, what is it that you exactly do?” Gale asked, at the ready to cast something just in case.

This was already spiraling into chaos—the very outcome Frans had been desperately trying to prevent. There was no turning back now as the rest of the group entered, their faces reflecting a mix of disgust, concern, and defensiveness. Thankfully, they outnumbered the drow six to one, giving them a glimmer of hope unless fate decided to intervene.

"Friend? No," Frans scoffed, rolling his eyes before turning back to examine the drow once more. They were undeniably intriguing, seemingly unfazed by the tension hanging in the air.

In that moment, Frans felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for Gale's presence beside him. The little rogue instinctively let his fingers brush against the wizard's, a soft, reassuring touch that spoke volumes more than words ever could.

The drow, however, regarded the group with an almost playful curiosity before their gaze settled on Aku, watching intently as the tiefling reacted to the head. With an almost mischievous skip, they hopped over and perched themselves on the desk, legs crossed, tenderly patting the head once it was placed down. No immediate answer followed as they stroked one of the dead woman's horns with a delicate touch.

"Hm?" the drow hummed, their eyes never leaving the detached skull that captivated them like a dazzling jewel. "Do? What do any of us do? That's a far more intriguing question."

An unsettling chill enveloped the room, the drow’s glowing magenta eyes shifting back to the group, a wide smile revealing impeccably maintained teeth gleaming under the dim light.

"We live to die, striving to defy that predetermined fate. Isn't it curious that some shy away from it, when embracing that ultimate goal seems so profoundly human?" They lifted the skull once more, cradling it in their outstretched arms with a strange reverence. "The failure to see the beauty in one's own end is the true tragedy." With a delicately long thumb, tipped by a dagger-like black nail, they caressed from the slack jaw over a blood-stained cheek—a morbid, yet strangely tender gesture, akin to a lover's caress. "The warden, undeniably stunning in life, has emerged from her cocoon to embrace the afterlife's metamorphosis."

Uncontrollable shudders rippled through the group at the drow's next move, unpredictable and grotesque.

Pulling the head closer, the drow captured those cold, blood-soaked lips and pressed a kiss upon death, exhaling a breathy sigh of pleasure. A suffocating silence hung in the air as they broke away and returned the dead warden's head to the desk, their already dark-stained lips now glistening a shocking shade of crimson.

Rolan was the first to voice the horror that gripped them all, his voice trembling with disgust. "Bloody hells! First off, that is unsanitary. Second, that's not what was asked of you. Third, are you insane?"

The drow blinked at him, genuine confusion flickering across their features. "Hm? Was it not? Oh, my apologies. I do tend to get lost in my own musings." They resumed humming and stroking the dead warden's horns as if nothing about this moment was amiss.

Gale returned the gesture, stroking his lover’s palm softly as they all waited for answers. Answers that never came. The drow seemed to be traveling down a path of psychobabble that was leading nowhere.

But the moment they kissed that severed head, Gale felt like he was about to toss up the dried fruits he snacked on as they waited at the docks of Last Light. He gagged and turned away.

“Gods almighty…” Wyll said in a face of disgust.

Aku only chuckled. She had committed far more despicable acts on the dead, she was sleeping with a vampire after all, but she got a rise out of seeing the others react to such an insane gesture.

“I don’t mean to cut these philosophical musings short, but we’re on what one would call being pressed for time,” Wyll said as he looked over the drow. He noted that their movements were graceful, fluid like liquid, and that they’d make a perfect dance partner. “Uh, I must examine this body for an item and then we’ll be on our ways to leave you to do…Whatever it is you do.” Wyll began walking around the desk to approach the body.

The stranger was completely oblivious to all the reactions, lost in their own little world.

Astarion, however, found it rather humorous, leaning over to Aku with a playful whisper. "I like this one."

“They’re entertaining,” Aku said as she gave Astarion’s hand a loving squeeze. Even though the rest of the group didn’t quite agree.

Then, his icy blue gaze settled on the towering structure that loomed over the desolation like a dark sentinel. Its hexagonal shape rose majestically towards the ceiling, with iron walkways stretching out to a second floor that likely contained even more locked cells. It dawned on him that this was probably the control center of the prison, the very place the warden would occupy, presiding over the torment of the unfortunate souls trapped within its walls.

"If I was a gambling man, I'd say safe bet would be there," Frans suggested, gesturing towards the isolated tower. "Lets give it a look o'er but--for the love o'all things holy--don't feck around."

A few questioning looks were exchanged, particularly from Rolan, but no one dared to voice dissent.

Frans stepped forward, leading the way to the heavy iron door. As he reached for the handle, he discovered it was already slightly ajar, which gave him pause. Signaling for the others to hold back, he stilled himself, holding his breath as he listened intently to the sounds from beyond.

Silence.

Then came shuffling, followed by... humming? Odd and merry, someone was humming a cheerful tune. More shuffling, a few taps, and then the distinct rattle of something being moved. Then he heard the unmistakable creak of a chair being shifted, followed by an even more jubilant melody, carefree and sweet against the backdrop of their dire situation.

What in the hells? Frans furrowed his brow, his heart thumping in confusion.

With utmost care, he began to open the door just enough to get a glimpse inside. What he saw took his breath away—a drow with snow-white hair cascading down like a waterfall, dressed in colors so flamboyant and an abundance of gold that they felt a world away from the traditional drow aesthetic. The stranger lounged at a desk, feet propped up, rocking slightly as they mindlessly hummed and tossed a...

Frans felt a wave of nausea wash over him.

With morbid caution and a sense of wretched wonder, he watched as the unbidden drow tossed a severed head up and caughtit like it was some sort of child's plaything.

Then they paused.

Frans’s stomach flipped once more.

Magenta eyes locked onto his in an intense moment that felt like an eternity, making his heart race as the stranger’s lips curled into a smile.

"Hello there," their voice flowed like silk, smooth and enchanting, reminiscent of a spring breeze gliding over lilacs in bloom. "Don’t be shy. Come on in. Well... unless you’re here to kill me... but then again, that could have its own alluring perks, I suppose."

Frans blinked, grappling with how to respond. Yet, since he had already been spotted, it seemed prudent to step inside. Remaining cautious, he swung the door open just enough to slip through without drawing attention to the others.

Now, with a better look at the stranger, he realized they weren’t dressed like any Absolute fanatic he had encountered before. However, their next words left him questioning everything.

"Oh, you have a beautiful bone structure. I can’t help but wonder how it would look with the flesh peeled away."

"Pardon?" Frans shook off his moment of shock, a mix of bewilderment and suspicion rising as he questioned the peculiar Drow who had so casually commented on his bone structure. Who in the hells were they? Right now, they seemed more like a threat than an ally, or at the very least, an irritating nuisance.

"Your cheeks, little goose. They're wonderfully sharp, with a delightful dip that enhances their beauty. One might assume your skull is just as alluring," the way this stranger spoke was both confounding and oddly intriguing—and none of it felt especially comforting.

"Feck? Don't talk about me bones like that, ya loon! Who the feckin' hells are ya, anyway?" Frans had completely lost sight of his mission, still reeling from this bizarre encounter.

"Me? Well, I'm not the one who was peeking around like a nervous teenage boy. Now am I? Perhaps I should be asking who you are?" The stranger elegantly turned the question back on Frans, their tone laced with playful challenge.

"Well, I..." Before Frans could conjure a clever maneuver to turn the tide in his favor, the door creaked open wider, and he stifled a groan.

The peculiar Drow had shifted their gaze past him, tilting their head with a raised brow. Then, with a muffled thump, the bloodied head was placed on the desk, its mouth hanging open, milky eyes already rolled back. It was in that moment Frans noticed the boots protruding from the other side of the desk—the rest of the unfortunate corpse.

"You brought friends!" the Drow exclaimed, standing up, a disconcertingly eager smile spreading across their face as they glided around the desk for a better view. Their movements were effortlessly fluid and graceful.

Their smile broadened, magenta eyes sparkling with delight as they first spotted Wyll, then the small group trailing behind him, all curious new faces.

Gesturing with an inviting flourish, the Drow beckoned them all to enter as if they were guests at a whimsical tea party. "Come in! Come in! There's not much in the way of seating, but...”

BG3 ACt 1 - A New Adventure

Adventure is thrust upon an unlikely group of unfortunate souls who must band together to survive.

Frans Olo, a roguish "bard," and Aku, a tiefling with no memories, find each other after escaping Mindlfyers and death itself. On their quest to rid themselves of their unwelcome guests, they gather others with the same ailments. Friendships are formed along the way but they uncover more about each other and their tadpoles than they bargained for.

Can they manage to work out their differences and live another day or are their fates already sealed? Their choices will decide.
