honestly even as someone who vastly preferred totk to botw i found the total abandonment of the ancient sheikah tech for mostly equivalent zonai tech really distracting. they attempt to handwave it but the explanation doesn't make any sense at all

they very much just felt like nothing more than a way to semi-organically include more puzzles in the overworld; shrines by any other name, i guess. you'd think they'd include, like, more large sky islands with different biomes, but not really? They all have the same aesthetic

honestly kirby is the only one of those where it ending a direct is an actual surprise. the series seemed content to be like, #1 nintendo b-list series ever, always doing well and making fantastic games but never really getting that 'major release' clout like mario/zelda/splatoon tend to snag

my one complaint is that the first boss has the same sparkle effect as a tell for 2 completely different attacks. The animations are different, but the particle is what draws the eye. If there was no sparkle at all or only one of the attacks had it, there'd be no issue

saw a lot of negativity about the castlevania demo and like. it seems pretty good to me. i get that we're all fatigued by darksoulsisms in everything so the flask system is kinda lame but. every iga past sotn had you healing in a menu like elder scrolls so i dont think much of value is lost

i like epic battle fantasy's method of visible encounters (you have to interact with them to engage but in exchange they are basically always in your way of either progress or goodies) they even simulate the wearing-you-down element by having battles come in several waves. it's neat

i think the 'bad-looking ps2 games' are either the simple 2000 ones or the really late ps2 titles that were all either ports from wii that had to be hastily downgraded or ports from psp that were basically unchanged (and thus looked worse due to the assets being made for a lower resolution)

metroid 1 is a game near and dear to me that i think most people should play at least once keyword being *play*, not *beat*, cuz theres a fair chance you won't have the patience for its archaisms and thats okay. there's a good gba remake and an even better snes sequel for you to try afterwards
