Since 1979, worker productivity is up 93.7%. Typical worker pay is up only 32.7%. The gains kept flowing, they just stopped flowing to the people generating them. Would a guaranteed income floor give workers enough leverage to close that gap, or is it too structural for UBI alone to fix?

Basic income isn't a handout. It's a fair claim on the wealth we all keep generating together. What would change for you if that claim were guaranteed?

Getting paid at the time doesn't erase the value you created. Infrastructure and institutions compound across generations, each builds on what came before and passes forward more than they were paid for. That surplus is growth. Basic income is an equal and fair claim on that ongoing surplus.

In 1797, Thomas Paine proposed a national fund to pay every person compensation for the natural inheritance lost when land became private property. That's basic income, two centuries before the term existed.

South Korea's rural UBI (called Love Gift Certificates 🫰) was so successful, they wanted to make it permanent and expand to 69 regions. The results speak for themselves: local businesses grew, declining regions saw population growth. The west should pay attention when UBI works.

No country pays untaxed universal cash by default. Refundable tax credits come closest, but they're conditional, not universal. A genuinely non-taxable UBI needs new legislation almost everywhere. Biggest hurdle beyond that: funding at scale, who administers it, or agreeing on the amount.

What's the difference between negative income tax and cash? NIT runs through the tax system: apply, report income, wait for the return. It means-tests who falls under a poverty line. UBI pays everyone upfront and unconditionally. No filing, no waiting, no benefit cliff.

Something hard to unsee: Imagine Earth has 100 people. 20 of them claim all the land. The other 80 have no choice but to work it, pay rent, give their means, just to survive. That's not an economy. That's a toll booth. UBI just returns each person their fair share of the commons.

I started this year weaning myself off Google. Migrating my accounts from Gmail to @fastmail.com They also use JMAP, basically JSON but for email. We need to get away from SMTP which is outdated. Yeah it’s paid, small monthly, but free is not free.

Nonprofit status update for Basic Income Action: talked to another org that helps file 501c3s, they said about the same thing. We could elect 501h, which allows some lobbying, but tracking it gets tricky if someone uses the platform to lobby. Someone out there will eventually report it if we slip.

Every major UBI pilot, Finland, Kenya, Stockton, the Alaska dividend, shows employment holds steady or even rises slightly. People don't quit working when basic needs are covered. They leave exploitative jobs, or use the security to start businesses, retrain, or care for family.

Had a call this week about BIA’s nonprofit status. Interesting pushback: because our platform gives people tools to advocate, we might need to be a 501(c)4 instead of a (c)3, even though BIA is education and advocacy.
