This is a lovely visualisation from Project APE at the University of Zurich’s Social Catalyst Lab, tracking how good AI verifiers are at finding deliberately planted errors in AI-generated research papers, and how much it costs to find them.

Simple Pangram testing exercise for academic content to explore how well it works. Takes around 15 min & follows the same passage as it is generated by AI, processed by a humaniser, and then copy-edited by another AI tool. innovationideas.co.uk/wp-content/u...

I think the community part of the diagram should resonate with academic publishers, and it's something Ben Kaube argues for, but the rest of the diagram doesn’t quite work. I had a go at an alternative, from a slightly different angle. What do you think?

Interesting: “Academic journals and publishers are a major referral category for both services, with about 16% of traffic from ChatGPT and 22% from Perplexity.”

Great post from Ethan Mollick: open.substack.com/pub/oneusefu... Curious about access to paywalled continent within these models and if/when this will change. As more academic publishers do deals with AI companies for use in LLMs rather than use in search will this change?

Great new issue of #Scalene about #AI and #PeerReview. Very much agree with Chris about peer review becoming more professionalised:
CL: I’m increasingly convinced that reviewing will become more professionalized (maybe carried out by editorial board members, along with multiple AI tools), and this is one more data point as to why change is required in current peer review methods.
