Hundreds of community members and local officials gathered Tuesday night for a vigil in Longview after a chemical tank rupture at a paper mill killed one person, injured nine others and left nine more missing.

Portland's parks bureau is facing major cuts for the second straight year, and it’s increasingly eyeing outside support to keep services and buildings open. Some call it a risky move toward privatization of public parks. Others see an inspired way for the community to pitch in and help.

The business is preparing to move into the cafe space at the Hoxton Hotel, in the same city block as its current shop but on Fourth Street. Owner Ian Williams said he expects to reopen in late February or March.

One issue in our first contract negotiation is compensation. OPB hasn't given us a proposal that addresses our concerns. Many of us struggle to make ends meet. Our current pay doesn't help alleviate the challenges we face. In the coming weeks, we’ll share more about the struggle our creators face.
