The fact that a lot of carrion beetles will also quite happily hang out on rotting boletes seems to validate that 🤣

Because the first one is used to keep away walking trees, while the second one is used to move small insects?

#3 looks amazing, but judging purely by the parameters of your original question I'd say #2 is the one to go for.

Is this WW2 era or more modern military training? In the UK a lot of the firing ranges are open to the public outside of live firing times and the general advice is just "if you see something metal don't pick it up and give it a shake"...

Stayed at a coastal campsite in New Zealand once, complete with signs everywhere showing the best tsunami evacuation route, only to be woken around midnight by (as I later found out!) the air raid siren the local volunteer firefighters used... so hard agree on this one.

One of those cutesy little hand-painted cupboards at the farm gate but instead of eggs and jam it's just full of fully-charged powerbanks.

They've clearly added too many items to their inventory and are now Encumbered, with movement speed reduced by 50% and disadvantage on athletics checks 😂

Monitoring a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker nest this morning for @lesserspotnet.bsky.social @edhorncastle.bsky.social using a remote camera to get detailed footage of food sources with minimal disturbance. Adults averaging a feed every 3.6 minutes, with a mix of invertebrates, predominantly aphids.

Bogs are beautiful…. Muskeg is marvelous…. Peat is neat…. …..and they all stabilize our climate. Please thank a bog today.

I'm lucky enough to hear cuckoos regularly during the brief months they spend in the UK, and they're special every single time! Glad you got to enjoy one!

Many people seem to be trying to frame this as some kind of pragmatic, harm-reduction, "try and change Reform from inside" exercise, rather than admitting the much more obvious explanation that many of Reform's policies likely align with Ben's own beliefs and he wants to help them win the next GE.

Sadly, for a large number of people I think the pinnacle of "being out there in nature" is hiking up a catastrophically sheep-grazed hill to gaze at a lot of other similarly bare hills, so perhaps the two quotes aren't as dissonant as one might think...

A real puzzle then! What happens if you try and delete the unwanted vertex (circled red below) post-merge?
000
Tom Williams @pterodaktyl.bsky.social · 02/12/2025
My guess would be that either the brown polygon has an additional vertex along the edge that touches the yellow one, or the two leftmost vertices on the shared edge aren't perfectly aligned. You should be able to fix by going into vertex tool and deleting the unwanted vertices from the merged shape.

Pet owners accidentally poisoning garden birds. Our latest research finds pet flea treatments (fipronil and imidacloprid) in 100% of blue tit and great tit nests, with nestling mortality higher in the more contaminated nest. @SongBirdSBS @SussexUni @CannelleTassin

It’s gone public… beavers are back in the Somerset Levels, specifically in the Avalon Marshes area - spreading naturally from other populations. Woohoo! We look forward to them spreading throughout the Levels, and they will always be welcome if they turn up on our sites. Somersetwildlands.org
