People rebutting MAHA by pointing to children dying are missing the eugenics of it. Children who die of disease, especially those already disabled, have removed themselves from the gene pool, their deaths evidence of their weakness. They believe their own children are superior stock.

We are suffering from too cheap communication. I want an email service that charges people a penny to send me an email, and a phone service that charges a penny a call. I’m paying for the free service with my time spent filtering, and I don’t like it.

My spouse, the pieman, made a pie and a half for a start of term pot-luck which was overburdened with desserts. I am eating peach pie with crème fraiche for breakfast and life is good.

The CDC has issued a clinical update on rabies prophylaxis, including a link to a rabies prevalence in animals checker, which I noodled around with. I applaud the wording for large, unspecified rodents kellycharniga.shinyapps.io/RabiesRiskTo...

@bsky.app If I home in on the replies to a skeet, to see more of the discussion, the interface gets really laggy. Often it freezes up entirely when I try to go back to the “Following” feed, and i need to manually clear the url and retype “bsky.app” to get back to scrolling. iPad, DuckDuckGo browser

We kept a gas car to go on long trips, and so I took the civic on the road last week, and spent the first hour wondering if there was something wrong with it. Just unbelievably noisy. It even made noise when it was stopped at a traffic light, not moving.

People don’t like it when you mess with stuff that they learned in elementary school. The Great Lakes are HOMES. Changing the name is irritating. The acronym is SHAME, and who wants that?

The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him. I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.

I dipped into some of the vaccine controversy, where the US is comparing our vaccine schedule to ”peer countries”, and it looks like our peer country is whichever country doesn’t have the specific vaccine being talked about on it’s schedule.

Kentucky House Bill 622 apps.legislature.ky.gov/recorddocume... mandates that the Governor must send out a proclamation stating that a special election will be held to fill a vacant Senate seat at least 56 days in advance of that election. No maximum time is given. Could be a 100 days.

People who have a first amendment right to opinions, don’t have a legal right to employment. If you can coerce organizations into firing people with opinions you dislike people will self-censor. Both the right and left have used this to move discourse.

So apparently the Feds are mad at New York State for going after a few rich white collar doctors bilking the system out of millions, rather than lots of poor people, even though that strategy is successfully netting twice the money for the State?

two months ago I went to an allergist, because my tree pollen allergies were out of control, and among all the other expected stuff (tree pollen, mold, cats) they found I had a food allergy to yeast. So I stopped eating foods containg yeast for a while to see if I would feel better.

4 months after clearing out my Mom's apartment, and I am slowly coming to believe that many of the things she bought in the last year online were meant as gifts for me. All of the lovely shirts and sweaters in my size and not hers? Well we all have things in our closets that don't fit anymore.

Walking the dog through Cape May County Park North. Just an incredibly beautiful park on a clear day
Looking across a lake. Blue sky reflected in blue water. Green foliage, white clouds, and a near perfect reflection that would look almost the same upside down.Bright red leaves of a Japanese Maple against a royal blue sky with a dead tree in the backgroundWater lilies, looking ready for Monet to paint them.

Sperlak nature center and Sculpture Garden, Goshen, NJ. A lovely place, with many meandering paths through forest and along marshland, scattered with art (and dog-friendly)
Rebar, painted red and planted to resemble a grove of bambooA suit of black armor standing in front of a sculpture with vertical wooden beams bound together with rusted steel bandsA large blue cement sphere, painted blue and covered with crochet doilies painted in many colors. A tribute to the work of women

In the past couple of days my allergies went from unrelenting to gone. I am not, apparently, allergic to whatever is in bloom right now. So I went out and photographed wildflowers.
A bright yellow flower with thin petals radiating from a core, like a kids sun picture.A flower with a yellow core and many pink petals forming a fringe like a lion’s mane around it.Tiny blue flowers on thin stems, so that the flowers seem to float in air and shiver with every breeze.A mass of tall pink flowers rising from the forest floor

Owning an electric car is like having a magic gas pump in your garage that never runs out. You just top up the gas whenever you want, and it only costs you $2 a gallon, whether there’s a war or not. And also the car practically never needs maintenance and accelerates like a Porsche

Why does the weather service advice me to “execute a preplanned activity” during severe weather alerts? How is that different from a ”planned activity”? Hunker down. Stay inside. Don’t drive if you don’t need to. Call if the power goes out. Execute a “preplanned” activity? 🙄 useless

The Inspectors General are responsible for keeping government fraud to a minimum. Trump keeps firing them. Appointing Vance is very much a fox/chickens move to enable, rather than detect fraud.

Three businesses whose emails would preciously have shown up in Promotions wormed their way into Primary today. Sigh. I expect that whatever hack they’re using will shortly be copied by all the other businesses I’ve been ignoring. Moved them back into Promotions, hoping gmail learns.

The big question looming over us is ”what will the Generals do if Trump orders them to attack Greenland.“ If I were a General I think I would demand that Congress declare war first. It‘s in the Constitution, which they are sworn to uphold.

Trump’s central American policy makes sense if you believe that Trump only cares about immigration of brown people into the US. Honduras and Mexico have more illegal entries, but ICE can take care of that. Venezuela tops the asylum list by a lot. Cuba is next.

The current conversation around vaccines is all about the risk to children, but as vaccination wanes we’re developing a cohort of unvaccinated teens and adults who have no immunity to diseases, and who are at far greater risk of complications. Eventually they’ll be exposed - but it’ll be random.

Greenland is the bright, shiny object that Trump waves in front of the Media when scandal threatens him too closely. It replaces a real issue with one which his base will simply laugh off.

Through either a typo in the database or a brilliant marketing ploy, Walgreens has priced the 32 oz bag of chicken jerky dog treats at $5 less than the 25oz bag. It’s been that way for months. I scored two yesterday on a BOGO.

Medicare should be extended to all children 18 and younger, and honestly this should be a no- brainer which appeals to people across the political spectrum. Children are our future! They don’t work and they can need a lot of medical care early in life.

Fall in New York. Goldenrod, Poke berries and a field of yellowing kidney beans. One glorious sunny day after another. We’re in the midst of a New York drought, which means that its only rained a few times in the last month. I expect it’ll be a great year for finger lakes wine.

Last year I was able to get a half-pint of elderberry syrup from the elderberries I planted 4 years ago, and I was pretty happy about that. Enough to have over ice cream occasionally. This year I made just under 2 quarts, and the progression is a bit ominous.

I listened to ACIP vote on a new RSV monoclonal antibody for newborns, which passed 5-2. It was also added to Vaccines for Children so it will be available regardless of insurance, 7-0. I think its very different to be a paid vaccine skeptic, and to publically vote in a way that endangers babies.
