This is definitely my experience too. You have to understand the context in which the phrase was learnt in order to understand what it means to the person. Like one child I knew who would say ‘good boy’ when he wanted to end an interaction.

💯% this. Mental health/wellbeing exists in, develops in and is maintained or damaged by context. Individual factors may well be a part of the picture, but they are in no way the whole picture.

We know we need to support our own wellbeing, to be able to support others. The ‘me’ must come first in our mental health, but it can’t just be ‘all on the person’. We must develop support that ensures there conditions to nurture and nourish people. 4/4

Ideas to support ‘mental health’ are often based on the that it is something completely internal and ‘within’ a person only. Yet, the reality is that we don’t exist separately from a context around us and our experiences of that. We can’t separate ourselves from this. They shape things for us. 1/4

💜 It’s not always the complex or specialist stuff that makes the biggest impact. 💜 Sometimes it’s more ‘being’ than doing. 💜 Our mental health and wellbeing is shaped by context. 💜 Think about what soothes nervous systems. 💜 Look for the small steps and glimmers amongst the challenges.
