First set:
Three pairs of socks in WYS Hollyberry wool (red and green stripes, two shades of each with green and white flecked stripes between each). There is a baby pair on the left, toddler in the middle and adult on the right.

I also recommend the Ankarsrum, especially if you make bread (I don’t have the slicing/mincing/grating attachments as my magimix processor still works). Here it is kneading:

The weirdest thing just happened… a package arrived addressed to me with return address of Hymns A&M and containing a new copy of a book I hadn’t ordered & already own. Did I lend mine to someone? (No, I found mine). Has anyone randomly sent me a copy thinking I might like it?
A copy of Becky Chambers’ excellent book, ‘the long way to a small angry planet’ on a padded envelope showing a return address of Hymns Ancient and Modern. There was no packing slip or note.

Not your point, I know, but ‘vague de chaleur’ rather than ‘canicule’ struck me as odd, so I checked the ngram. Must be the influence of English.
An ngram graph showing ‘canicule’ appearing in French from about 1540. The red line showing this is quite wobbly with a clearly rapid increase around 2000. ‘Vague de chaleur’ is shown as a blue line almost at 0 throughout the period 1500 - nowish.

I saw these daisies this morning and thought of @mooseallain.bsky.social!
An oxeye daisy next to an ordinary daisy, which is about the same size as the yellow centre of the oxeye. Other than size, they look the same.

Nature morte… yes, the tulips are dead. But I quite like the twisty shapes.
A glass vase on the mantlepiece. The shelf and wall are pale blue. To the left is a small soapstone sculpture of dancing figures. It is slightly pushed back. To the right is a brass carriage clock. There is no water in the vase but there is a spring of evergreen conifer and some dead, purple tulips with faded foliage. The flowers are twisted and drooping downwards in star shapes.

I inherited my grandma’s. It included some Italian buttons my grandad rescued (looted? Found abandoned in?) from a button factory during WW2, many of which I still have, now neatly sorted.

That reminds me. Sea Pink is a really obvious colour to me as sea pinks are a flower that grows by the sea, particularly in the west of the UK. Also known as thrift. This clump is on Islay (Photo found at www.islay.org.uk/wp-content/u...).

My 15 year old insists on using an espresso spoon for eating desserts. We cal, it the tiny spoon (next to a dessert spoon and teaspoon for comparison).
Three spoons on a marble worktop: dessert spoon, teaspoon and espresso spoon. I imagine they’re doing the ‘I look down on him’ sketch.

Your harpist would be wiser to play it the right way round! With the tallest bit away from her, like this:
Me (white woman with glasses and brown dishevelled hair) sitting at my harp. Not a great photo as it was hard to take (at arm’s length) so the harp could be seen properly!

Very pleased with today’s loaf (pain de campagne, recipe from Brilliant Bread by James Morton).

Excited to receive my Christmas cards from @loreandordure.com. I didn’t get round to sending cards last year (long-Covid fatigue, too much to do) but this year I have an incentive!
A packet of hand printed Christmas cards featuring the lyrics to Twelve Days of Christmas, highlighting Seven swans a-swimming. The visible card is yellow with red and white text and gold snowflakes. There is also a red bonus card with a white paper wrapper printed with the snowflake design round it and a snowflake sticker. They are laid on a teal velvet background.

#TinyJoys New plant! We first saw this amazing plant at the Botanic Garden of Wales in the summer. Yesterday, we bought one from the garden centre at RHS Wisley. Love the leaves that look like they’ve been painted with a smaller leaf design.
A large houseplant with lime-green elongated leaves that have dark green edges and leaf-like pattern on them that looks like a twig with dark green leaves on it. We are looking slightly down on the plant and the leaves are splayed out in all directions. It is in a corner on a rosewood table in front of a blue-green wall.A close up showing the elongated, ‘painted’ leaves. You can see that the undersides of the leaves are a dark, burgundy red. There is more of the pale-blue and teal patterned pot visible.

Fellow trans allies, please get one of these badges if you haven’t got one already. I’ve had two young people say, ‘I like your badge’ (one pupil at my son’s school and a shop assistant just now), which makes it feel really worthwhile. Let’s show folks that lots of cis people support trans people.

Just as I give up translating, I have discovered that the book I translated several chapters of a few years ago (and which didn't have a publisher last I heard) was published last year by Routledge. And not only am I credited (inside, not on the cover), I am thanked! #TinyJoys

#TinyJoys Sunlight shining through the washing up to make a shadow still life on a door.
A blue-grey panelled interior door with a sunlit strip across the middle. The sunlit area has interesting shadows formed by a colander on the left, a Chinese spider type strainer in the middle and something that looks like a spiky plant on the right, but is probably a glass jug with cutlery in it.

At morning prayer (at home), I like to use the WCC’s prayer cycle. This week we are praying for Austria, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. As well as intentions and prayers there is usually a song. I was struck by the simplicity & future tense in this French text to Ps 100. I like praying in French.
Music to the Old Hundredth with text in French, English, German and Spanish. The English text is the familiar “All people that on Earth do dwell”. The French:
Vous qui sur la terra habitez, (Y’all who live on earth)
Chantez à pleine voix, chantez. (Sing lustily, sing)
Réjouissez-vous au Seigneur, (Rejoice in the Lord)
Égayez-vous à son honneur. (Cheer up in his honour)

Lui seul est notre souverain, (He alone is our Lord)
C’est lui qui nous fit de sa main: (He made us with his hands)
Nous le peuple qu’il mènera, (We are the people he will lead)
Le troupeau qu’il rassemblera. The flock he will assemble)

Dans sa maison dès aujourd’hui, (In his house, from today)
Tous présentez-vous devant lui: (everyone present yourself before him)
Célébrez son nom glorieux, (celebrate his glorious name)
Exaltez-le jusques aux cieux. (Exalt him to the heavens)

Pour toi, Seigneur, que notre amour (May our love for you* Lord)
She renouvelle chaque jour, (be renewed each day)
Ta bonté, ta fidelité (Your goodness, your faithfulness)
Demeurent pour l’éternité. (Remain for eternity)

* You is in the familiar ‘tu’ form, as is usual for family, children, pets and God.

I believe they hem them. Personally, I don’t see why you’d need to for cleaning cloths. The Japanese method of patching things, on the other hand, is brilliant. The running stitches make the patch much more secure and hard wearing. Here’s a patch on my favourite jacket.
A pale pink patch with running stitch across it in embroidery silks in shades of pink, purple and gold. It is patching a worn area of a jacket made of pink and purple striped cotton ikhat cloth with thin gold stripes.
