One of the main reasons I stopped streaming was how reliant I felt on megacorporations (YouTube, Twitch) to host what I made. Being on Twitch also made it *very difficult* to ignore view metrics, even though they made me feel exhausted and miserable. I've come to view this as by design.

This is the biggest reason I stopped streaming, despite spending months on an interactive stream overlay and a new PNGTuber avatar. A viewcount can never replace the intrinsic joy of creating. Make things for *you*, not for a social platform.

When making videos "on YouTube" or streaming "on Twitch", you become subject to the whims of the megacorporations that host your work. I highly suggest everyone who livestreams as a hobby look into independent streaming options, because this *will* get worse.

I've been thinking a lot about this idea for the past several months. I can't crunch my thoughts down into the bsky character limit, but know you're not alone. Where possible, do what you are intrinsically motivated to do, not what extrinsic motivators (likes/views) dictate you SHOULD do.

I personally take issue with this change not applying to all users. Verified accounts were the biggest culprits of engagement-farming anyways (when I still used Twitter). IMO It shows that leadership care more about profits than running a healthy platform, but that has been apparent for a while now

Even pre-Musk-buyout, I can't remember Twitter replies going on for over 50 messages *per person* **in one day**. The only edge-cases I can think of are news orgs, and those long threads with numbered images (ie. "my favorite celebrity tweets")

Remember: viewcounts are temporary, extrinsic motivators. They are made to feel incredibly important by design, but say very little about you and your work. Consider what makes you feel personally fulfilled about streaming, then move forward with that as your goal.

I have diagnosed ADHD and ASD, and you're not alone. Creative projects can take a very long time to finish, and especially to get to a point you're satisfied with. I'm in a similar spot with a longrunning stream overlay project I've been making for close to a year now.

Streamlabs for sure, I've personally had a lot of luck with the Elgato products I've purchased over the years tho. Got a capture card and a stream deck from them and they both are great.

Pro tip, have the forearm attack to the shoulder via a ball-joint. Vtuber models use fairly-uniform skeletons and assume a humanoid animation rig will just work out-of-the-box, so complicated robotic joints (via things like control bones) aren't able to be implemented (in most programs).

This was my old Vtuber character. Still love parts of the design, but man, those shoulders... and it was too hard to get rid of them, because doing so messed with the shape language a lot. Very hard to design around.
