I'm an expert hand weaver in the Byzantine Empire! Pretty good (substantial improvement on "professional ice hockey player)
You are now forced to have the same job as the main character in the last book you read.
What is the job?

Sex is great but I think this bobbin might be even sexier

I finished a couple of knitting projects this week! Both in handspun. The satisfaction is off the charts ngl

5 is too hard to pick one so I'm going to do some honourable mentions: Mexican hot chocolate snickerdoodles, perennial fave; Civil War: The Cake, V's 40th birthday cake; earl grey chocolate choux buns with a chocolate craquelin; New Neapolitan Cake, a raspberry chocolate orange cake

#4 terrible picture but my favourite thing that I make: chocolate pear walnut cake. I created this after I had an incredible cake at the short-lived but much-missed Frenchie. It's a toasted walnut cake with chunks of pear and dark chocolate folded through. I serve it uniced and it is incredible

2 in a completely different direction, the topped focaccias I made for Christmas this year. One with a grape-fennel-brown sugar topping, and one with a zucchini-gruyere topping - basically the SK zucchini pizza but on focaccia. Plus baba ganoush. Went SO hard

Finished my big spin
Eight hanks of handspun yarn in pastel pinks, blues, oranges, greens, and purples, sitting on a green bedspread. They are arranged roughly in order of thickness, with the top left hank very thick and thick and thin and the bottom right hank much finer and more consistent (but also a bit overspun). The top left very very thick and thin hank posed with the bottom right much more even, fine hankAn arrangement of three objects: a nest of spinning fibre, combed sliver, commercially dyed in pink blue purple and orange; a spinning bobbin with a singles yarn on it showing clear areas of blue and pink; and a hank of finished yarn clearly plied from two of the singles.

Hotere

When you offer only three
vertical lines precisely drawn
and set into a dark pool of lacquer
it is a visual kind of starvation:

and even though my eye-balls
roll up and over to peer inside
myself, when I reach the beginning
of your eternity I say instead: hell
let's have another feed of mussels

Like, I have to think about it, man

When you stack horizontal lines
into vertical columns which appear
to advance, recede, shimmer and wave
like exploding packs of cards
I merely grunt and say: well, if it
is not a famine, it’s a feast

I have to roll another smoke, man

But when you score a superb orange
circle on a purple thought-base
I shake my head and say: hell, what
is this thing, called love

Like, I’m euchred man. I’m eclipsed

This has a fun construction. It's essentially a 90-degree-rotated raglan, with the increase points at the centre back, centre front, and at the top of each of the sleeves. Now that I've split the sleeves off, I start on the right-hand front and right-hand back and work short rows to fill the gap
the wip showing that half of the sweater has been picked up on needles and the sleeve and the other half are on waste yarn waiting their turnThe sweater yoke laid out on the couch, showing that on the right-hand side of the sweater the sleeve stitches have been split off, and the front and back halves are being worked in short rows. Essentially the front of the sweater is shaped like a triangle with the tip pointing down, and I am working a long skinny triangle under one half of that triangle to fill the gap and make it a rectangle.

this was my actual review
The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley
medium-paced
Challenging. Joe gets off a train in London in the early 1900s and finds he can't remember who he is or why he is there. Eventually he learns that he is a slave in the household of a Frenchman in this England under French rule. He is married and soon has a child. But he can't stop trying to fill in the blanks in his memory and follow his occasional flashbacks and he follows this compulsion to a lighthouse in the far north, and then back in time to the Napoleonic wars - and then forward and back a few more times as his timeline changes around him. Fascinating, challenging, and ends in a thoroughly Pulley-ish way that I find satisfying, but I have mixed feelings about the overall book because these characters just do and witness so many horrible things.
