Overall, it was a fun and informative event, and I'm so happy I was able to attend it. Definitely going next year!

Someone put up this tier list which anyone could come and change. Just standing there and watching people argue was a fun activity in itself.

And the booths! Oh, the energy was insane, and there were so many cool projects that I can't justly list them all down. The most crowded booths were those of @tangled.org, Frappe (frappe.io) and Ente (ente.com), but everyone else was building equally cool stuff.

My favourite talk was the one by Professor Mohit Tahiliani of NIT Karnataka, who shared his journey of creating a place where his students could learn, have fun and contribute meaningfully to the FOSS ecosystem.

There were so many cool talks about how FOSS is at the centre of crucial initiatives like healthcare digitization, language preservation and consumer privacy. Additionally, there was some super useful advice by student community leaders about how to build a community of excellent FOSS citizens.

Finally got around to writing about my experience at #IndiaFOSS2026. Many thanks to @tangled.org for the tickets! It was delightful to see the sheer energy and curiosity among the crowd. And at the risk of sounding way older than I am, my hopes for Gen Z have skyrocketed after this event.

DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD. instead ask: is it SINCERE, is it CATHARTIC, was it FUN TO MAKE, is it MADE BY ME, and don’t forget to stay silly

Yo @tangled.org just checking: will you be sending out the DMs soon? I haven't received a message yet. No rush, just want to confirm. Thanks again.

Keyboard focus UX is **so** under-studied in recent decades. We've got places where interaction speed+accuracy actually matters -- store checkouts! -- using ancient UIs everywhere because *the keyboard actually works* and has affordances in pre-2000's software. Modern tech needs to re-learn this.

That certainly seems to be the zeitgeist. The urge to make "XYZ but ATProto" is stronger than the urge to chill out and make cool, fun stuff like the 90s.

I see. So long-term storage of records happens in the PDS, but lightweight real-time events can bypass it entirely or use it for eventual consistency (depending on the functionality) which is where Iroh comes in? Am I understanding correctly?

I can vaguely imagine why they'd make sense together but can't put a finger on a concrete use case yet. Could you elaborate? What would be a good example?

Of course, thanks for all the great work. That said, I just found out Joan is no longer doing paid articles, so my suggestion is moot. 😅 Anyway, I've started writing a bit on Leaflet and it's been a great experience, so thank you!

CC @joanwestenberg.com See if this makes sense for you alongside your existing Substack publication. As a regular reader, I find Leaflet much friendlier and more interoperable compared to Substack's walled garden approach. As a writer, you might find the lower platform fee more attractive. Win-win.
