Absolutely. Mathematically more harm that good! I don't understand how people don't see it as obvious. In case you're interested, my (wordy) attempt to explain: projectpodcast.substack.com/p/a-critical...

Pride in calling myself American, especially growing up overseas, has always centered on the idea that we were, at least most of the time, the good guys, or tried to be. Now we are evil. The American "we," not the you-and-I "we." But that's how it stands. "We" are now the evil.

Not "everything" USA. Every nation and everyTHING is a mix of good and bad. Support the good, shun the bad. Just as in applying the scientific method to data. That's how order emerges from chaos and how the best elements of a system can prevail over the destructive elements.

There are important distinctions between a true cult and mere "fandom," which any political figure attracts some of. @jasonstanley.bsky.social has explained this in detail.

I think he has a point. For one thing, conservative ideology is invariably linked to a preference for heirarchical thinking, and there's nothin more starkly heirarchical than a cult.

It's not your best work. It's as though you have an intuition about data centers but aren't willing to express it cleanly. My guess is that like practically everybody else, you don't really understand how to parse their benefits, or much more importantly, their costs.

If you think it's an accident that the most successful nation in the history of the world is also by far the most diverse large nation in the history of the world, I think the problem is in your head - not in the diversity, in the equity, or in the inclusion.

Humility: The only really important virtue; the others all follow. The basis of morality, starting with the golden rule. I am no more important than anybody else, therefore all are equally deserving of civilization's fruits. If we could wave a magic wand to spread it, all our problems would resolve.

Thank you. My understanding of fascism has been that it's an expression of cultural fundamentalism. My idea of capitalism is different, contains more nuance and broad spectra over which it can operate. Trying to understand the relationship better.

Just as a writer, I wouldn't be proud of that writing, but I wouldn't necessarily be embarrassed. The grammar is almost perfect, the spelling is almost perfect. This is not what we usually see from MAGA. The run-on sentences could be a fair attempt at a style, they even remind me slightly of...

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.

Julie Gray, wife of Holocaust survivor Gidon Lev, who joined Musk in his visit to Auschwitz speaks out. She says that Musk felt nothing during the tour & only "cared about how he looked." She shared this with me privately shortly after the tour, and I'm grateful she made her thoughts public.
I see people posting that Elon was at Auschwitz this time last year - therefore, his recent "gesture" is not antisemitic. I was there, too. Last year. With Elon. I am embarrassed that I have photos of this on my phone. My love, Gidon Lev, was the "special guest" of this photo-op event. We thought, at the time, that it would be good publicity. But I would not share the photo today. I chatted with Elon Musk. I spent hours with him and walked with him through Auschwitz. I stood with him, looking at the nauseating heaps of hair, luggage, and shoes flooded with violet light meant to preserve it.
Is Musk an antisemite? People, actually, it's worse - he doesn't care whatsoever. Elon, father of "little X" as he described his freezing cold son to me, literally does not care. He was unmoved by the experience. For Gidon, to be in the place where his father, Ernst, died on a death march - whether shot by the side of the road or having simply collapsed - was a huge deal. Elon did not care. He was about his press junket and his bodyguards. I was ten feet from him as he posed for the cameras of his entourage. He was utterly detached. He cared about how he looked. When he placed a wreath at Auschwitz and Gidon was overlooked, he walked away with the cameras whirring. This is Elon Musk. A sociopath, if ever there was one. To deduce, from this visit, that he is a friend of the Jews is desperately naive.

Outstanding metaphor from @chrishayes18.bsky.social: you can only get where you want to go by harnessing the energies available. Also demonstrates the damage of purity tests and doctrinaire absolutism which work to tear down the sails, only allowing their use in perfect uncorrupted winds.

Not only that but this is a case where 1 + 1 = >2 By a lot. Stifling that potential would be, and is, massively destructive. A crime against progress, no matter how you define progress. A crime against humanity. But gratifying, I gather, to the more fragile among male egos.
