Abstract
We provide a clearer presentation of the Chair44 monotile, a new strongly aperiodic
monotile in three-dimensional Euclidean space E3
.
With LLM tools (ChatGPT Astra), Ioannis Tsiokos recently reported the first
known strongly aperiodic monotile in three-dimensional Euclidean space E
3
, the Chair44
monotile (see Figure 3, taken from Tsiokos’ preprint [11]). Hats off to Tsiokos for this
discovery, the framework he developed, and the human inquiry that led to the Chair44
monotile.
However, the paper itself and the formalization that it claims for support are not
in a form that is readily usable to anyone who wants to understand or check it. This is
not just because of the needless length or complexity of the argument (which is indeed
overwhelming as presented), or because the formal repository is not in normal form, or
because much of the text is misleading or poorly organized, but mainly because there
is so much irrelevant puff to push through. These are hallmarks of an LLM-driven
research paper.
We must, absolutely, insist on a higher standard for scientific discourse. The aim
must be to communicate, clearly, with people in the community — certainly this is an
historical requirement for publication.1

I got one of these as a present at a conference once: a 3d-printed trefoil with no tri-tangent plane. I did not know that until I took it off the supports and set it on my desk. I *also* learned that my desk is not quite level it is sturdy and survived hitting the floor

those elite universities function more as gateways to *power and influence*, at least on the national level that's the target. farther away from the centers of national power, we have some state governments doing their own local versions (waves from flyover country)

I have a second piece display at O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley CA this month, entitled "Julia". Here it is, and a short math-explainer of what we're looking at
A hexagonal grid in the plane with each cell filled with a small image of a black and white fractal. Some of the fractals are larger (and darker) than the others, so when looking from a distance another image emerges (as the fractals themselves act like dark/light pixels for the larger image)

Oh! and ALSO another benefit. Students will feel slightly confused about the second statement, since "those angles don't appear" when they draw a generic rhombus. If they try to put those angles in visually, they draw diagonals, and hence are closer to a proof of part 1

Oh! Wait, I get it now. Conjecture 4 is what I usually think of as Conjecture 1 because the JIBLM style means I had to renumber everything in one sequence. So YES Yes it is as written for the reasons above

this was so amazing and increased student feelings of ownership of the math and the classroom and their ability to participate productively by asking questions and it hit so many of my meta-goals right off the bat that I decided to keep it forever like you see it now

TJ Hitchman @profnoodlearms.bsky.social · 16/09/2024
and we used their thoughts to make new conjectures that had their names on them. (eg1 If a rhombus has these angles congruent, then it is a square. eg2 If you have a compass and straightedge you can construct a rhombus which isn't a square. and lots of other variants depending on the semester) SO

but being in a hurry I wrote it on the board the way it now appears on the page. And I just faked it in class and WOW was the discussion rich and amazing. students got the point right off that not all conjectures are true, and

so, the first time I used this exact thing was probably my third time through the class while still writing/designing notes. And in that case I meant to have two pairs of opposite angles so there would be a quick bit of discussion about notational choices and mirroring arguments... BUT
