Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We have moved out of the house and garden we have lived in and loved for over 28 years. Here are some final garden photos. I'm sorry on this occasion I cannot do the alt text because the screen is a bit blurry. 120
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Reviewing a paper, found an odd reference. Could not find paper on journal web site, Google, PubMed. Asked @googleai.bsky.social: is this paper real? G: Yes it's real, look at journal web site Me: the DOI goes to a different paper G: Yes I was wrong, it's typical of an AI hallucination 000
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Nope it’s four minutes straight through, for me. I never take these instructions literally any more, since that recipe told me to stand in boiling water for five minutes. 040

Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I’ve pretty much got the hang of it now. PS “diddly snikes” RIP Steve 011
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 31/08/2026The paper contained no declaration of AI use. However, the style all the way through was "Not X but Y" and four of the six sentences in the Conclusion section were written like that. I think it was written by AI. How do others approach this situation? 010
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I was asked to review a paper. The authors came from a country where English is not the first language. The paper was a long detailed narrative review written in impeccable English, well-structured, and all the content seemed correct. It would be a great resource if published. 100
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 27/08/2026You've got to feel sorry for the laparoscopists though. 120
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 24/08/2026And not to forget Xerox Enlargement Microscopy: photocopy something at 200% enlargement, then do the same to that, and keep going until you can visualise individual atoms. 010
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 24/08/2026I recommend the Annals of Improbable Research and the previous Journal of Irreproducible Results. Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 10/07/2026You’ve taken me back to my childhood, tearing open the end of the newspaper-wrapped package of joy and scalding my fingerprints off searching for a dim sim. 020
Ian Davis @profiand.bsky.social · 09/07/2026I feel this. This is a major design flaw of the whole fish and chips process: it can never come soon enough. The consolation here is that what you eventually get has not been pre-prepared and sitting for hours under a heat lamp. 280
