Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is my favorite novel. That said, I did not go into @realgdt.bsky.social’s film expecting it to become my favorite film, nor even my favorite del Toro film. Alas, the film, even with its many changes, remains an incredibly faithful adaptation and one of the 2025’s best.

Poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein with the showtime above it.

For the past few years, nothing has made Halloween season Halloween season more than listening to old episodes of The Purple Stuff Podcast with @dinosaurdracula.bsky.social and @sludgecentral.bsky.social - To me, in addition to the classic stuff, very few things get me into the season as much.

I saw Dogma in a theater last night for the first time in over a quarter century. I love this movie. I wrote about it last year for @filmobsessive.com: filmobsessive.com/film/film-fe...

First vacation is a very long time. The Holdovers. Samantha Harvey’s Orbital. Time. Good food. Family. I’m lucky, I know. First few hours have been pretty nice.

Haven’t seen Magnolia in years. For me, it remains one of the greatest American films ever.

What am I doing on the last day of my 30s? Working and listening to some of my favorite music. Tonight: finishing my annual rewatch of Columbus.

It’s Leap Day! Time to watch Leap Day William. I know it’s a silly movie, but Jim Carrey is excellent in it. Seek it out!

I first saw this on either IFC or the Sundance Channel over twenty years ago. Back then they had a program that showed indie shorts. I have a VHS tape somewhere with Lick the Star on it.

I adored everything about this book. Interesting Facts About Space is one of the best works of fiction I’ve read in years with one of the best protagonists I’ve spent time with…pretty much ever. Rarely does a text or character make me feel seen, but Enid certainly did. Bravo, Emily Austin!
