This terrific 2020 article by @lililoofbourow.bsky.social is relevant here. What Alito does is worse than hypocrisy, she writes: "It is degrading when people lie to you openly and obviously" and take pleasure in your inability to do anything about it. slate.com/news-and-pol...

It’s Not Hypocrisy
Mitch McConnell’s machinations are something far more degrading.

‘Culture wars’ can matter deeply
During the French Revolution, women's progress became a potent culture war issue, leading to new constraints.

People outside the DC area might not understand what it is like to have Trump rampaging through our neighborhood like it's his personal playground. The people of SD should think about how they would feel if he decided to take a sledgehammer to Mount Rushmore. He destroys everything he touches.

Time for the six authoritarians on the #SCOTUS to watch Judgment at Nuremberg. The movie makes clear that judges who facilitate crimes can also be held accountable for them

Same for the march from Arlington Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial--a much younger crowd than previous marches. Also, tons of families with kids. It was really heartening.

The sisters had such limited lives--One died at the age of 30, the other 42. And never revealed a life beyond religion and the household. Whereas yes, the brothers had full rich lives--although so weird that only one married.

So cool: a few days ago, I got a message from a descendant of the 18th C Bordelais family that was the subject of my 1st book (from 2000!). He sent photos of Victor and Delphin de Lamothe's portraits. It's amazing to see the images of these men I spent so much time reading and writing about.

I will ponder! I know that I have read stuff on neighborliness--but also , women's bonds--maybe this? Moch, Leslie Page, and Rachel G. Fuchs. “Getting along: Poor Women’s Networks in Nineteenth-Century Paris.” French Historical Studies 18, no. 1 (1993): 34–49. doi.org/10.2307/286950.

Trump's trajectory proves my theory of aging. As people grow older, they are like a cup of boiling wine reducing into a sauce. Whatever personality traits they have intensify, becoming more and more pronounced. In his case, narcissism, greed, and cruelty.

I remember when it was a black mark if a circuit court was regularly overturned by #SCOTUS. Doesn't it seem as if SCOTUS should be embarrassed that suddenly they are overturning all the courts all the time? That maybe the lower courts are getting it right and they are the problem?
