I got in a solid 75 minutes of writing today behind a closed office door. Not too bad for the beginning of the semester.

Was I outside doing yard work in this nonsense? Yes, yes I was.

Florida State University’s political science department is hiring this year at the junior level in American Politics and Comparative Politics. Applicants for both jobs should have strong substantive and quant methods skills but otherwise the fields are open. The postings should be on ejobs soon.

Hmmm, should I do some yard work today? *checks that the temp is 98 and the heat index is 112*. Nope. I'm staying inside.

I'm a huge fan of Messi, but Argentina had no business even being in the finals. And for all the hype Yamal was getting all tournament, he really never showed up. Time to turn it off before the trophy presentation.

Very sporting of England to switch defenders with France at halftime. Defense optional soccer is a lot of fun.

I see Pensacola is again in the news for the wrong reasons. My 2 cents that nobody asked for as a resident of Pensacola for 10 years. 1. I would've loved to be there for that low pass, and I'm a little mad I missed it. But I understand not everyone feels that way.

England absolutely deserved that loss. Parking the bus after scoring and daring Messi to be Messi?

Lots of pundits pundit-ing on the Iran war. IMHO, the very worst is Bret Stephens who confidently declares that the war will be over in 3 months. Based on what? Nothing. No understanding of war, what war "is good for" and war termination.

Rather than simply being ineffective, relying on air power alone can actually be counterproductive, a lesson the Trump administration now seems destined to learn the hard way in Iran, columnist @profpaulpoast.bsky.social writes.

Air Power Alone Won’t Achieve Trump’s Objectives in Iran
Trump may learn the hard way that in addition to being ineffective, bombing campaigns alone can actually be counterproductive.
