*Includes people in joint programs in NELC, EALC, and the Law School. To be clear, I almost didn’t make it, many times. By comparison, 11 out of the 16 men received tenure. Some women still found success elsewhere. But one friend isn’t alive today. @kspoon.bsky.social shows this isn’t an anomaly.

This study resonated with me. Some anecdotal data: 24 PhD students started in the History Department* at Harvard in 2009. 8 were women. 6 of them graduated with a PhD. 3 of them won tenure track jobs. 2 of them published books. 1 of them received tenure. It’s me. I’m that person. 🪳🪳🪳

Japanese began building Shintō shrines in #Taiwan almost immediately after acquiring the island as its first formal colony in 1895. In 1937, as part of the kōminka movement, they required Han and Indigenous subjects to worship publicly at these sites. This website documents those locations.

Me too. Regarding football, it takes 100 men to field a team in college, regardless of the size of the school, and so the proportion of seats reserved in the student body increases the smaller the school. You can imagine what that does to SLACs especially.
