Jeffries refusing to endorse Mamdani through the near-entirety of the 2025 campaign was a constant storyline in the summer and some of the fall—so one thing to note here is that his own disregard for building a relationship with Mamdani is part of what left him no leverage this spring.

Under appreciated about NY winners is that they ran better campaigns. They talked to voters & got voters to talk to each other about them. Magnetism 101: if you want people to come to your cause, be attractive. Pollingists can't comprehend or recreate this: donors are their audience.

Today, a fire broke out on Richmond Terrace on Staten Island, followed soon after by reports of an explosion.

What unfolded was a fast-moving emergency that claimed one life and left more than 30 civilians and first responders injured. The fire is now under control.

We mourn the life that was lost today, and we hold their family in our hearts.

Tonight I visited a firefighter in serious condition, as well as the family of a fire marshal who remains in critical condition. I ask every New Yorker to keep those injured – and their families – in your thoughts.

To the first responders who rushed toward danger without hesitation: thank you. As you do every day, you put yourselves in harm’s way so others could escape. Our city owes you a debt of gratitude.

The idea of "overturning" or "repealing" the 14th Amendment was a pretty fringe proposition until recently, but it wasn't unheard of. Obviously the former Confederates wanted to do that. But it was also a white nationalist talking point in the Cold War era. This is 1988.

The Trump DOJ lied about the SPLC's role in Charlottesville. Using informant-provided info, the SPLC handed the FBI a 45-page "Event Alert," including names, photos, associates and criminal histories of the rallygoers—and their "weapons of choice," per a new filing. Background buff.ly/AwMBRNa
The SPLC used the informant program to gather voluminous and detailed information about the risk of violence at Charlottesville. That information was
memorialized and provided to law enforcement, including to the FBI’s Mobile,
Alabama office—the very office leading the investigation of this case—in advance
of the rally in the form of a 45-page “Event Alert.” That document warned the FBI
of the specific individuals likely to attend the rally and foment violence, providing not only names and pictures, but specific details about associates, backgrounds, and criminal histories. For some of the individuals identified in this Event Alert, the SPLC even provided details about those individuals’ weapons of choice based on intelligence gathered through the informant program.

Among the things Shauni Kerkhoff does in her 127-page complaint against Blaze for defaming her was describe trying to defend the Capitol against Guy Reffitt's advance. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
45. Reffitt advanced towards the Capitol carrying a megaphone, which he directed
toward Ms. Kerkhoff. He shouted something furious that she could not comprehend.
Ms. Kerkhoff commanded Reffitt to stop, and—per policy—warned him that she would have to
use the PepperBall launcher. He did not comply. So, she began to escalate her response, as she
had been trained to do. She aimed first at the ground to get the PAVA powder chemical airborne
without striking him. He did not stop. She then shot slightly upwards, towards his chest. This
had no effect—he appeared to be wearing either heavy clothing or body armor. She estimated she
fired approximately 40 to 50 PepperBalls at him. Again, he just kept moving. Whenever he moved
forward, the crowd advanced behind him. Other rioters seemed emboldened by his defiance and
his ability to endure Ms. Kerkhoff’s rounds.
46. When PepperBalls proved ineffective, Ms. Kerkhoff’s partner arrived with the
FN-303. But even FN-303 rounds had no effect on Reffitt’s advance. Finally, an officer retrieved
a pepper spray cannister and deployed it directly at Reffitt’s face. Reffitt finally buckled, though
he continued to wave the crowd past him.
47. By this time, Ms. Kerkhoff was positioned on the middle of a narrow staircase
approximately four feet wide, with about two people abreast per stair. She was with a handful of
fellow officers. Roughly 50 to 60 protesters were positioned on the staircase and rail, backed by
thousands more. The sound was deafening—the officers couldn’t hear their radios or hear each
other speak. Rioters held up scaffolding tarp to protect themselves from less-than-lethal irritants.
Ms. Kerkhoff shouted “PepperBall!” “Get back!” and “Stop!” repeatedly, as loud as she could.
She fired more PepperBalls, attempting futilely to stop the mob’s advance. The crowd pressed on,
and Ms. Kerkhoff’s unit was overwhelmed. Rioters pushed Ms. Kerkhoff’s partner into a
doorway. They pushed the gas mask off his face, sprayed him with mace,…
