review of Rabbit's Kin (1952, dir. Robert McKimson, starring Bugs Bunny) by Brandon Reese

Pete Puma is the most fucked up guy in all of Looney Tunes. I do not say this lightly. He’s so stupid that the comedy takes on an avant-garde hue. Bugs should not be doing this. People should be stepping in. His voice seems to be from no region on earth. You do not recognize Pete Puma because he resembles nothing, nobody. It’s sometimes important to step back and remember who these shorts were made by and who they were made for. They were made by bitter, sweaty cartoon men of the 30s, 40s, and 50s and they were made for shell shocked GIs. Only in this context does Pete Puma make any sort of sense. The gateway drug of Elmer Fudd had begun to wear off and our boys, jaded by the horrors of war, needed an even dumber fix. This almost feels private. A conversation to which we should not bear witness. We had no business there.

spring is here and seeing all of the little flowers always makes me imagine there's little pikmin running around wherever i can't see
