Got my second spooky one shot done, checked in on my character comms (they’re looking so good!!), and got maybe a third through my ‘audit’ of fics doc. Didn’t get to refreshing the book outlines and need to finish that audit. But first, Halloween decorating at last today!

“You shut up.” Sean grabbed the taller man’s collar, forcing him to lean in closer.
Suna giggled and they froze, turning back to her. The warmth of her amusement burst over their faces, along with their own embarrassment, as they straightened up quickly.
“I heard a mermaid’s kiss can save you from drowning.” Sean almost groaned at Mac’s cheesy flirting. But Suna kept smiling at them. As long as she kept smiling, he’d support anything Mac blurted.
“Is that so? Are you drowning?” Suna teased.
“I really think we might be,” Sean replied.
“I will jump in this lake right now,” Mac said at the same time.
Suna laughed. She laughed a bright, sharp series of laughs that broadened her whole face.

"Dragon" - Fae/Witch AU. Kori goes by Nyx (you don't give your real name to the fae 👀) and keeping Kori's nickname for Aria, 'Sparkles.' Aria made a deal that her first-born would be Kori's in exchange for the witch's (reluctant) help. Fairly ambiguous wording there. 🧚‍♀️ #WriteSky #WIPSnips #FantasyAU

The florist offered Sparkles a large blooming red flower.
Sparkles shook her head after recovering from obvious surprise.
Kori felt her feet moving without her control as the florist smiled broader and leaned closer.
“Come on, princess.” She put her arm around the fairy’s shoulders, smirking as the florist’s smile fell. Sparkles sighed and settled into her side. She smiled and nodded up at Kori.
“I follow you, moonbeam.” Despite sounding shaky with nerves, the fairy’s words were purposeful; Kori felt her tense as her wide green eyes watched for her reaction and, obligingly, heat rose up her neck right to her earlobes. She tightened her hold, nodded once to the flustered florist, and steered the fairy away to a quiet alcove.
“You alright?” Kori pressed her forehead to the blonde’s, thumbs rubbing circles against her cloaked shoulders. The blonde nodded, smiling and even bouncing a little. The witch didn’t bother suppressing a chuckle. “Silly sweeting.”
“Pretty moonbeam,” the fairy retorted. Kori’s face burned and she forced a scoff. Sparkles giggled at her victory. Grabbing the blonde’s freckled hands, the witch shoved what she’d bought from the weaponry stall to her.
“Here. Dragonhide. Use that when you cook,” Kori ordered, almost following up with another scolding for how long the fairy used the iron pan without saying anything until she noticed how those green eyes started to water. Arms were tossed around her shoulders and the fairy hid her sniffles in the crook of her pale neck.
“Oh, Nyx, thank you!” It took another moment and Sparkles squeezing her tighter for Kori to move again. Her arms tentatively slid around the fairy’s waist, hugging her closer, and she pressed a kiss to her soft wavy blonde hair. A happy whisper floated through the tender moment. “I’m glad I’m doing good.”

I think about the Muppets from Space house a lot for the band house, with the band’s own relationships and quirks + other bands and musicians that come through the space often. Really a vibrant haven for the weird and creative. Somehow they haven’t pissed off their neighbors or the landlady yet.

The band - Ams (then homeless) crashed on Daryl’s couch for a bit before getting her own place. Billy moved in with D shortly after they got together. Josie stayed with Ams after getting away from her fam. By then, Amelia and D were already looking for the band house. They all live together now 🎶

My Core 4 dormmed together in uni and stayed close. Kori and Kate live together, and Aria moved in with Suna before moving in with her boyfriend later. When that went to shit, Suna already had another roommate so Aria now has her own cute lil studio apartment.

Myself 💯 After a dry spell of nearly ten years, these lingering characters broke through some wall in my brain after 2025 EOY burnout and breakdown, and I’ve barely stopped since. Honestly such a relief to be writing again that I’m just letting myself have fun with it.

Still deciding if / where I'd want to post my short fics. Considering it's original work, not sure if it fits on Ao3, but haven't had much time to look at alts. Now that work is slightly calmed down, might do some research this weekend. Mostly just excited to have the mental capacity to write again.

Part 4 - And checking in with the girlies smart enough not to go in the creepy haunted house... 🫢 (Part 4/4)

Josie was smart, so she waited outside the haunted house. Suna refused to go through by herself (or as a third wheel), so she also waited outside. The side path by the exit, and ‘cast’ entrance, had benches so Suna and Josie landed there with everyone’s bags.
“Waiting for someone?” Purple hair diluted the actor’s vampire costume a bit. Josie wanted to poke fun, but then she caught Suna’s face when she looked up at him. Stammering only once, her friend managed to explain why they were off the main path.
“How about a photo?” Josie said, smiling at Suna’s widening eyes. A minute later, the purple-haired vampire’s teeth were posed at Suna’s neck, her hand on his arm. Their eyes met again as he pulled back. Josie bit her lip to keep from chuckling at their blushes.
“Break’s almost over, sunshine.” This one, brown-haired and blue-eyed, was some kind of zombie. Wait, ‘sunshine’? Shit.
“Oh, sorry–” Josie started, scrambling to backtrack.
“Isn’t she cute?” the vampire blurted, gesturing at Suna with both arms. The zombie’s eyes looked Suna up and down, smiling as he met her blushing gaze. Oh. Okay. Then he glanced to Josie.
“Group photo?”
The vampire’s teeth were back to Suna’s neck as the zombie pressed behind her, hands on her hips and lips brushing against the tip of her ear, when Billy and Daryl strolled past them. Josie ignored them entirely and kept taking photos.
The photo of the vampire kissing her cheek also captured Amelia’s face after Kate kissed her own just outside the exit. The photo of the zombie kissing Suna’s other cheek captured Amelia chasing after Kate while Kori and Aria smiled tenderly at each other at the top of the exit stairs.
The next five photos were the vampire and zombie both kissing her cheeks, capturing Suna’s overwhelmed surprise. Then, a photo of all three exchanging names – Mac and Sean, respectively – and phone numbers. And, at last, a selfie of Josie laughing with Suna’s makeup-stained bashful face smiling over her shoulder.

Part 3 - checking in on my MCs. Kori is whipped, your honor. 🎃 (Part 3/4)

Kori was in a weird-ass kind of heaven. Aria’s arms were tight around her waist, sweet freckled face occasionally nuzzling into her chest to hide, and refused to let go. They stumbled from creepy room to creepy room. They did not look around much.
A muffled bloodcurdling scream carried from the room in front of them. They stopped halfway into the mad scientist lab.
Aria whined and her hands clutched at Kori’s shirt.
“I hate this. Hate it. Why’d I listen to you?” the blonde whimpered. Kori chuckled at her tiny pout and barely resisted the urge to plant a kiss in her blonde waves.
“Almost done, Sparkles.” She dragged Aria to the next door. She opened it to complete silence, but warily put her hand over the blonde’s ear and pressed her into her chest again. A few steps was enough.
The scare actor jumped out screaming. Kori flinched, clutching Aria against her, and flipped off the actor with her other hand. The actor was probably supposed to keep screaming but he just stared as the two women shuffled out of the room.
Kori closed the door behind them. Aria glanced up at her with wide shiny eyes as tattooed hands cradled her face.
“You good?” Kori asked as the blonde took a shaky deep breath.
“Mhm.”
“Let’s get the fuck out of here then,” Kori said. Aria nodded as Kori’s arm wrapped around her shoulders. They heard Amelia faintly ahead of them somewhere, leading them through the last of the creepy rooms. They blinked at the waning sunlight as they stepped outside, Amelia rushing down the steps two at a time in front of them and bolting after Kate.
“Ice cream,” Aria demanded, with big green puppy dog eyes. Kori scoffed but didn’t argue.
She also didn’t argue when Aria sat happily on her lap with a large cone of strawberry soft serve. The blonde hummed and beamed as Kori’s arms slid around her waist.
And she didn’t argue when Aria said she’d never do a haunted house again. But, if this is what she’d get, Kori was definitely bringing her next year too.

Part 2 - somehow Amelia made sure she and Kate would walk through together... 👀 (Part 2/4)

She wasn’t entirely sure how she ended up walking through with Amelia, but the haunted doll bedroom overrode any of Kate’s possible embarrassment about clinging to her. She fully expected the annoying punk to tease her to high heaven. Instead, a black-denim-clad arm was wrapped around her shoulders and pulling her in tighter. Amelia let her take the lead as they wandered through the morgue room and the mad scientist lab. Kate stepped out of her hold as they approached the next door.
“Bet the next room’ll be boring,” she tried to joke as Amelia frowned.
“Too bad,” the taller woman replied as she let her arm slide from Kate’s shoulders. She lingered close to her for an extra moment. “You’re kinda cute when you’re creeped out.”
“Sh-shut up,” Kate snapped. She yanked the door open, ignoring Amelia’s smug laughter behind her, and stomped through.
She didn’t even register the torture chamber around them, or the one device broken on the ground, before a screech made her jump.
“Fucking hell!” she shouted, jolting backward. A hand wrapped around her arm and yanked her forward into Amelia’s chest. She could only manage a choked gasp as she was quickly steered toward the next door.
“Asshole,” Amelia yelled at the actor. She kept her arm tight around Kate’s shoulders as she opened the door and led them into the dim red room. She smacked away several black curtains, revealing the worst jumpscare yet.
“You fucking freaks!”
Amelia berated Billy and Daryl as they sheepishly walked the rest of the house in front of the women (where she could keep an eye on them). They all emerged into the fading sunset over the fairgrounds, with Amelia still sniping and her arm loose around Kate’s shoulders.
“You know what?” Kate interrupted, gazing up at Amelia. The punk woman’s attention snapped to her and her scowl softened. The brunette gave a small smile. “You’re kinda cute when you’re annoyed.”
Kate planted a quick kiss on Amelia’s cheek and darted down the steps.
“Hey!”

AUish Core 4/Band: Haunted House Shenanigans
Daryl rolled his eyes as the badly painted door creaked open in front of him. Billy followed closely as he strode through the door. The fake mad scientist lab was actually kind of cool; he glanced over some of the bubbling beakers, took the time to read some of the random monster science notes strewn over the desk, and momentarily considered trying to drink the bright green liquid bottled on a side table. Billy’s hand sliding around his waist was distracting enough for them to steer them toward the next door instead.
This one didn’t creak and led to a disappointing torture chamber. Was this really supposed to be a haunted house or–?
A sharp shriek rang out as some guy in a medieval something costume jumped out, waving a fake hot poker and a plastic steel mace.
“Jesus fuck!” Daryl jumped backward against Billy, narrowly avoiding a precarious torture device the scare actor was probably aiming for.
The actor kept shrieking in Daryl’s face until Billy shoved forward. Their hands were in fists and panic flared in Daryl’s gut. He grabbed their arm, yanked back, staggered against some other poorly stabilized device, and watched as it toppled over.
With that distraction for the scare actor, Daryl shoved Billy through the next door. Black curtains fluttered around them in a semi-dark room. A dim red bulb hiding somewhere across the room was the only light. Hot hands grabbed his hips and shoved him through a few musty curtains.
“What the fuck?” His back hit a wall and Billy’s soft chuckle puffed over his face. “B!”
“Better be quiet, kitten,” they murmured, lips ghosting over his ear and down his jaw. Daryl bit his lip, stifling a desperate moan, and felt himself melting as Billy kissed down his throat. He tried to roll his hips against them but their grip on his hips tightened. “Naughty.”
“You shoved me in this corner,” Daryl argued, squirming, only for Billy’s searing kiss to drive any remaining arguments from his mind.

The gross asphalt of the alleyway kept blurring in and out of focus. Sean rubbed the tears out of his eyes for the millionth time, wincing as he pressed against the bruise forming on his cheek. He knew his lip was split again too. There was no hiding everything from his mom as clumsiness this time. He sighed and let his head fall slowly back against the brick wall of the convenience store behind him. Stretching, letting himself relax and breathe, a sharp pain in his side made him yelp.
“Hello?” A concerned voice carried down the alley. Sean pulled his legs back, he didn’t speak, and he held his breath. Footsteps approached around the recycle dumpster. “Are you okay?”
Sean’s deep blue eyes met wide worried hazel eyes. Usually smiling thin lips were contorted in a confused frown. Soft-looking brown hair, usually pulled back, reached denim-clad shoulders.
Mac. Sean blinked up at the boy who sat across the room in his English class and two seats over in band class. He always seemed nice, endearingly blunt, laughing easily with friends – Sean hated being the reason he stopped smiling.
“I’m fine.”
Please stay.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Don’t go.
“Somebody hurt you,” Mac replied and crouched down beside him. Sean shrank against the wall as the boy looked over his face, eyes lingering over his split lip and his cheek. Rough fingers brushed the purpling mark on his cheekbone, only for a second. Sean felt his face warming and he knew Mac noticed; the corner of his lips twitched as if tempted to smile. “You’re too pretty to cry.”
“Okay.” The word escaped with his shocked exhale.
“I’m walking you home.” Mac stood and held his hand out. Sean hesitated but took it, barely stifling a gasp as he was gently pulled to his feet.

Now that big all-consuming commercial shoot is done, I'm planning my next writing priorities and October writing ideas. I have 2 Halloween one-shots I've been holding on for ages, might do one this week and post a snippet. I'm already starting down the rabbit hole on costumes for each character lol.

Amelia, with Kori running her a close second. Ams had her self-epiphany halfway through high school and struggled only one foot still in the closet since she’d never been very good at hiding herself. Shitty teachers enabled cruel kids. She’d light that match.

Aria was treated as a second thought a lot growing up, and like she was too much by previous friends & partners, that she still believes she can be too annoying and childish. She gets better at allowing herself to take up space, not self-stifling. And Kori never lets her feel stupid or silly.

Kori has a lot of outward confidence, but struggles with trusting that anyone actually likes her, esp being so abrasive. She grows more self-assured as the core 4 and the band come together. Still, Aria is so sweet and strong and deserves better and would never want her grumpy ass. #WriteSky #wip

The last two weeks were all about getting ready for a big commercial shoot at work and then actually doing the big commercial shoot at work. It wrapped Saturday night. I am still exhausted but nice to finally be able to look at my writing again.
