I forgot to post these, but months ago I did some tests for stylized dialogue in POTBRR. My goal is to make this visual novel feel as much like reading a 70's Showa-era manga as possible! 🖤

Chihiro having dramatic inner monologue, "She can have the role... over my dead body!" with spiky text balloon.

Chihiro being shocked agaisnt a black background with a white shock shape behind her. The black, drippy text box reads, "No... it's not possible!"

Chihiro in her dressing room, looking neutral. Her cloud-shaped word balloon reads, "Finally. Some nice, calm, normal dialogue"

Finally, it’s everyone’s favorite cheeseburger-loving stagehand, Kaito! A staunch believer of the supernatural, he is responsible for most of the rumors regarding the Phantom. Chihiro can trade food such as burgers and chocolate with him to get more energy for daily activities! 🍫

✨ Our visual novel in 4 screenshots! ✨ The Phantom of the Black Rose Revue is a romance/horror/drama game inspired by The Phantom of the Opera and Rose of Versailles 🌹 🖤 Play the demo: yamino.itch.io/black-rose-r...

Screenshot from our game, made in a shojo art style. Chihiro, a young woman with long curly hair is looking vulnerable, eyes closed. She's thinking "Everything you've done for these past few years has led you to this moment."

Chihiro is talking with another a woman with a black suit and short black hair. They're looking into each other's eyes. Chihiro is thinking: "Hm, what do I feel comfortable telling her?). The scene is framed with sparkles and roses.

Chihiro is in the Revue's backstage, in front of mirrors, dressings, drama costumes (including the outfit of Sailor Moon) and a wig of Sailor Moon's hairstyle. The player, as Chihiro, has three choices: look in the mirror, check her station, check the drawer.

Two characters are in a corridor, backstage: a tall man with dark short hair and technical tools, and a woman with long black hair and bangs, named Tomiko. She looks angry and very upset, and is saying: "What did you say?"

Madam Kaede is the no-nonsense guiding light of the Revue’s talents. Though sometimes overbearing, she cares deeply for the theater. She’ll help Chihiro learn the ropes of performing on stage. Don’t let her know Chihiro has chocolate, though. 😬 It won’t end well.

Seen stalking submerged in shadow, the mysterious Phantom of the Black Rose Revue is often dismissed as nothing more than the creaks and cracks of the aging theater. Not much is known about this rumored figure. Catching a glimpse of her is said to be an omen for ill tidings. 🥀🖤

Make way for the prima donna of the Black Rose Revue, Tomiko! The only thing this diva loves as much as the spotlight is expensive coffee (And maaaybe bullying Chihiro 😈). Despite her stardom, rumors about her unseemly past abound... If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, you’ll adore her storyline!

Thank you, Doctor Overkill, the reason we're able to reproduce Ryoko Ikeda's artstyle so well is because we trapped her soul essence into a carved potato using a cursed email link that we sent her. Yamino has to hold the potato whenever she works on the game. It's a small price to pay.
