Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

RefUK, RW media, & Eurofash are plainly trying to whip up a panic about this. Any serious report must begin by explaining that Ceuta is in Africa - not mainland Spain - and 48k+ of the 50k crossers were already returned. It is frightening how many still don't know this. Please share on all socials.
Map showing the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa.Screengrab from Politico piece that explains, citing Reuters, that 48,300 of the 50,000 recent crossings have already been expelled or voluntarily returned to Morocco.BBC report on Friday, still echoing the RW disinformation - or at the very least not challengning it sufficiently.

Spain's prime minister has blamed trafficking gangs after about 60,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. At least 57 people died during the surge, according to local media."Daily Mail and Daily Express from this weekend, with front page headlines "Ministers MUST stop the Spanish border invaders reaching UK" and "SPANISH BORDER CRISIS IS 'WAKE-UP CALL' FOR UK", respectively.

Found this #moth in our dining room earlier. From a Google search I think it's a box tree moth but they seem to be more common in the south? We are in north West England. Just curious as I've never seen one like this before

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

No it was very much scaremongering over the actual vaccine and possible side effects of gardisil sadly. There was a lot of talk still about mmr at the time locally too

I watched those as a double bill in the cinema. Not rewatched krull since then although I've watched the original star wars trilogy over and over. I think the family friend who took us to the cinema fell asleep during krull

He's made a huge difference to our Greater Manchester transport system (something people in London take for granted), with trams, and now buses being integrated. And he donates part of his salary every month to support homeless people in the area. (Whereas Farage is constantly money grabbing).

Until 2018 Tories always had 8,000+ councillors. Totally dominant in English local gov't. Reform's POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE act depends on not being seen as a far-right Tory imprint. Because same 8.000 seats just split between Tory and I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Tory is not an earthquake. It's a big fart.

I've not really looked since that comment tbh it's too depressing to keep looking so I've been working and waiting to look again later on today when more results are in. But I completely agree that the greens haven't spoiled anything for labour

It's also the "Farage is a man of the people" rubbish they are peddling. When in fact he is an ex private school stockbroker who just received over £20 million in personal gifts and donations to his 2 man band limited company "party" from a Thai crypto billionaire. Crickets from right wing media

Brexit 2.0 The crypto billionaires and right wing media are determined to get their man into Downing Street. Anything this government does well - never reported. Any mistakes or bad policies are reported endlessly. Left /centre are split across 3 parties, while conservatives morphed to Reform

I have an automatic mint green fiat 500. Absolutely love it. I bought it at 3 years old, its now 10 - but low mileage, cheap to run £20 a year car tax and fun to drive. Its our second car so it's the one for my short work journeys, shopping trips etc. Feels small on motorways but speedy enough

It seems to be to be able to get it through the lords. But a ban managed by the school rather than mandatory is more sensible eg how do music and performing arts students record performances, choreography etc? If phones are outlawed the teachers cant say get your phones out when they are needed

That UK government ever considers asserting its contractual rights against a major supplier is rare and welcome. And here, this is especially welcome. This will not be easy but it can be done, but it is good it is being seriously considered at all. www.ft.com/content/2d2b...

With every passing day, the decision of Starmer and his cabinet a) not to join the Iranian war b) to delay access to bases looks wiser and wiser. Trump’s press conference last night shows he has no real idea what the objectives are and its duration is arbitrary.

Massive humiliation for Farage, who tipped off the UK press that he was flying to Florida to have dinner with Trump... only for Trump to decide he had more interesting things to do when Nigel arrived.
But, rather than receiving a formal
invite to meet Trump, Farage was in
fact invited to Mar-a-Lago by a
member of the club, according to
multiple people briefed on the matter

They said Farage had hoped he would
be able to catch Trump for a
conversation as the US president was
scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago that
evening. However, Trump had a
change in his itinerary and decided to
stay instead in Doral, about an hour`s
drive away

The Reform leader's failure to secure
an audience with the US president
underscores a weakening of ties
between the two populist leaders who
famously formed a close friendship in
the vears before and after the 2016

We’re 7 days into something that looks like a war, feels like a war, costs like a war, has the same economic effects of a war, but we’re not supposed to call it a war because it would require the President to follow that annoying thing called the United States Constitution.

I have one child on plan 2 (30 years repayments) and one on plan 5 (40 years of repayments!) Both had no choice but to take out student loans to go to uni and pursue their chosen careers. It's really a graduate tax but the balance should not be increasing if you're repaying, that's an unfair system

Of course if it was a tory government it would be reported as "we planned this all along, no surprises here". So why is it reported as a surprise when a female labour Chancellor achieves her planned goal of increasing the surplus?

If we want them to be able to navigate employment, further education, voting at 16 shouldn't we focus on education about safe social media use from say 14 to 16. Possibly provide apps designed for kids to use too? So they get the benefits/learn to use in a safer environment with parental controls?

Paula Williams @prettybutterfly6.bsky.social · 16/02/2026
As the parent of 2 adults under 25 I worry that blocking kids from using social media doesn't solve the problem. I think we should be tackling the media providers themselves and making it safer for everyone. Banning for under 16s then means at 16 they are plunged into a world they dont understand

Personally I think Mandelson should have been nowhere near government or the Lords with his history and the documents should be released. Would be mad if starmer is brought down by this though when so many actually in the files (unlike him) are not being scrutinised!

Paula Williams @prettybutterfly6.bsky.social · 12/02/2026
Will they also point out the many people from the other parties eg Farage /Gove who thought it was a fantastic appointment at the time? Many people said it was a pragmatic choice then precisely because of his history. So unless Starmer went against security advisers I dont think they can criticise
