I know it makes me look like a rube to glaze Nintendo but consider that they see fit to update smaller franchises like Pikmin, Star Fox, and Metroid, and so one even when they wane in popularity so that they can pop off later down the road. Modern Sony would have dropkicked Pikmin after 3.
