My first story on the health beat is about the law that keeps 90% of Ontario's healthcare workers from being able to take strike action. It's being challenged by the Ontario Nurses' Association, but in the meantime, unions like CUPE say employers rely on the law to avoid bargaining in good faith.

In a statement to @pressprogress.ca a CBSA spokesperson said they "fully agree that the freedom of peaceful assembly is a Charter-protected right." This is the first known immigration enforcement action at a peaceful protest in Canada.

I made a chart comparing the max benefit for a single person on Ontario Works, and CMHC's historical data on the average price of a one bedroom apartment in Ontario. Over an eight year rate freeze, the gap between these two numbers has widened considerably.
