Just a reminder: 163 articles were published on Jason Arday in the week after he resigned. Same outlets: 13 articles on Cambridge academic James Orr after allegations of misconduct & a broadcast showing him seemingly engaging in illegal activity. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t...

*adds to list* Good to hear as she in 1923, following Gray at Glastonbury in 1917, was definitely doing early archaeological science.

Strange isn’t it, given it was their museum. If (if) W. Cunnington and ALFPR archives are there, then she’d have likely followed suit.

That would be a Stage 2. More than plenty for this book just looking at her published Iron Age work.

Extraordinarily so. She’s pointing to prehistory as different in 1932. I should probably transcribe it in full, given how tricky it’s been to find.

I’ve found Maud Cunnington’s presidential address! Well, actually a wonderful lady in Swindon Council has. And it was worth the hunt. In 1932, Maud is talking about the movement and repurposing of Iron Age human bones.

When I told my mum about Mary Astell she said, “Her father was a Hostman though, natural enemy of the Keelmen”. 17th century family / class disputes still alive in NE women 💪🏼

Shutting out 50% of your intellectual resource from the professions, whilst instead promoting second-rate thinkers into that gap, certainly doesn’t make good economic sense.

Mary Astell first suggested higher education for women in 1694. Emily Davies petitioned Cambridge for access in 1866. Equal access to HE was finally achieved in 1995. Three bloody centuries.

The Jarrow Crusade, in which 200 unemployed men marched to London calling for government intervention to restore jobs, began on this day 1936. Unsuccessful at the time, but helped to shape postwar attitudes to employment and social justice.

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

The model created from the Flag Fen auger survey shows that the basin around the post-alignment has a gentle gradient across its western half, beside a deeper 250-300m wide “valley” across the eastern half. This eastern deeper, wetter zone corresponds to the location of the Flag Fen platform.
The deposit model created during the Flag Fen auger survey, with differing colours indicating the variations in depth across the Flag Fen basin.
