The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is to work with others to “conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.”

The Department of the Interior is excited about the potential of “de-extinction” technology and how it may serve broader purposes beyond the recovery of lost species, including strengthening biodiversity protection efforts and helping endangered or at-risk species.

The Endangered Species List has become like the Hotel California: once a species enters, they never leave. In fact, 97 percent of species that are added to the endangered list remain there. This is because the status quo is focused on regulation more than innovation.

It’s time to fundamentally change how we think about species conservation. Going forward, we must celebrate removals from the endangered list - not additions. The only thing we’d like to see go extinct is the need for an endangered species list to exist. We need to continue improving recovery efforts to make that a reality, and the marvel of “de-extinction” technology can help forge a future where populations are never at risk.

Since the dawn of our nation, it has been innovation – not regulation – that has spawned American greatness. Panama’s deputy foreign minister, Carlos Ruiz-Hernández, said at a news conference on Thursday that Panama and the United States were adhering to international protocols in their treatment of migrants.

Lawyers in Panama say it is illegal to detain people without a court order for more than 24 hours. Yet roughly 350 migrants deported by the United States on three military planes have been locked in a soaring, glass-paneled hotel, the Decapolis Hotel Panama in Panama City, for nearly a week, while officials ready a camp near the jungle.

Armed guards prevent any of the deportees from leaving the hotel. Several of them are children.

Hundreds of asylum seekers from around the globe are being trapped by the US in a Panama hotel where they'll eventually be sent to a camp in the jungle. One Chinese man said “I thought: America is a free country with respect for human rights. I had no idea it was like a dictatorship.”

They arrived at the United States
border from around the world, hoping
to seek asylum. Instead, they were
detained, shackled and flown by the
U.S.military to a faraway country,
Panama

They were stripped of their passports
and most of their cellphones, they said,
and then locked in a hotel, barred from
seeing lawyers and told they would
soon be sent to a makeshift camp near
the Panamanian jungle.

At the hotel, at least one person tried to
commit suicide, according to several
migrants. Another broke his leg trying
to escape. A third sent a plaintive
missive from a hidden cellphone: "Only
a miracle can save us."

In one window visible from a sidewalk
below the hotel, a woman clawed at a
latchless glass pane in an attempt to
escape. When she noticed journalists
below, she held up a piece of paper that
read "Afghan.

She made hand motions that indicated
an airplane, then her head falling off.
The message seemed to be clear: A
flight home meant death.

Some people have convinced themselves they're very clever because they've noticed Trump often says he wants to do a thing but doesn't end up doing it, and so they deem most things he says "distractions." ... but the most common reason he gives up is negative public reaction. It had to be fought.
