So much of Japanese pop culture is about never repeating the horror of the atomic bombs, Yamato is all about Japan rising from the ashes to hit back art it’s enemies. It’s jarring to compare to Harlock or Gundam only a few years later.

The one good thing about the anime industry’s obsession with reboots and remakes is it often pushes me to check out the original. I was NOT prepared for how nationalistic Space Battleship Yamato is from the first second.

I saw some screenshots of that X-Men as vampires comic. Marvel Comics theoretically exists as an R&D department for Disney, which functionally just means finding ways to make character designs from the 60s and 70s look worse.

And when those goons do manage to break into Hollywood and inevitably burn all their bridges there, they come back to comics as a big fish in a small pond.

The “comics industry” is such small potatoes that it sort of makes sense that all the creeps and abusers linger forever. Like all these guys dream of getting a Netflix show payout and end up running indie board game kickstarter scams or whatever.

The one kid in my boy scout troop who played Warhammer 40K was convinced that the Tyranids were somehow created in the 60s before "Alien" came out, despite what it said on Wikipedia. This is still like the main thing I know about 40K.

I already pretty much accepted that no one is ever going to make another good movie the year when Warner Brothers only released 2 movies and one of them was “The Flash.”

MADOX-01 is a bad movie only remembered for really good mecha design, its really amazing that the dream team of Katsuhiro Otomo, Hiroyuki Kitakubo, and Hisashi Eguchi came together 4 years later to make the exact same movie but good.
