When you trying to talk about an obscure piece of media you love on a public platform only to end up with replies where a majority of people only bring up a single memetic scene instead of any actual meaningful discussions.

[niche post] I love how, in both CURE and PULSE, Kiyoshi Kurosawa drops very artificial public transit process shots into otherwise grimly "realistic" stories. Scenes in cars in these movies do not look like this. They're kinda like game loading screens or little private moments.

a very processed process shot of two characters on a bus in CURE (1997)

I was only beginning to get into anime in the late 2000s and wasn't all that keyed into it as a business but suddenly a lot of stock hit clearance from several companies that had been putting out huge number of discs, prices rapidly dropped. Big "hell yeah, oh wait, is that good?" time.

Since we’re talking Nic Cage knowing ball on here now I have to bring over the interview clipping I posted on Twitter forever ago from the September 1996 issue of Playboy where he talks about Urotsukidoji

I'd like to start a music company and a comic-book company.
PLAYBOY: What types of comic books do you read?
CAGE: All sorts. There's one I like called Hard Boiled by Frank Miller and Geof Darrow. It's very intense with highly detailed drawings. I also like some of the erotic comics. There's a lot to be said for these Japanese cartoons of girls doing sexy things.
PLAYBOY: What are the best sex comics?
CAGE: Legend of the Overfiend is a great one. It's operatic. It's not something you'd want your kids to look at, but it's wonderful.
PLAYBOY: For a fan of comic books, it's surprising that you haven't done more thrillers or science fiction movies.
CAGE: Yeah. I would do them if they were offered to me. I want to be able to make every kind of movie, whatever comes along that keeps it interesting.

Steel Ball Run reread really confirming how much I like Johnny Joestar. Defined by failure and pride, struggles to look past the urge to undo his own complicated tragedies to do the right thing. Interesting character shaped by many losses in a story with explicit win conditions.

Still thinking about Primetime, want to see it again. TV as societal ritual to banish evil into a figure on a screen, an other, the primal shape of a person as a creature in the woods, even as cameras and mirrors reveal it's just a regular guy.

Saw Argento's Inferno last night, pure nightmare the-worst-thing-you-can-think-of-will-happen-next logic movie. Spends a lot of dialogue talking about witches and worldbuilding off of Suspiria, but it's at its best when exploring the hidden, malevolent spaces just underneath the normal.
