An Italian acquaintance on Facebook selling some military history books. Not sure is this was autocorrect or a bad translation 😳

More good news from the Italian Front of wargaming is Baccus released some Italians, although I wish they were in pith helmets. So far no one has done those in 6mm that I’m aware.

Battlefront is rereleasing the l3/35 tankettes. I already have a company’s worth, but now I may be able to put together an entire battalion (40 tankettes).

Here’s a garbage AI pic of Rommel I saw posted on the Facebooks. There’s got to be a bajillion actual historical pics of Rommel in North Africa, why would you need AI to create one?

Not sure how I missed this (I guess it’s been around for a bit), but here is a very neat source for some Italian TO&E. What’s particularly interesting are the various colonial units listed. This also means I will have to buy more miniatures to recreate some of these units. 😬

Sculpting a tiny little guy before work. I daydream about making miniatures for a living instead of my actual job

Scale modeling sure has come along way since I was kid. Back in my day we had to kit bash our chickens. Hopefully these will be followed up with aftermarket photo etched parts.

Does the stowage box I made appear too short, like by a hair?

Frederick @possumlad.bsky.social · 29/03/2026

Making the left side stowage bins found on the Vickers Mk VI light tanks serving in North Africa. These are missing from Battlefront’s older resin & metal models. Next step is to make a mold to duplicate it x16 more times for a full squadron.

It's back in Portland. Will it go to Miami or New Jersey next? Place your bets!

010

Frederick @possumlad.bsky.social · 16/02/2026

Every time it arrives in Portland (its destination) it gets rerouted somewhere else, increasingly farther away. Anybody want to make a wager on where it’ll end up next?

I am reading the memoir of a war correspondent embedded with the Italians in Tripoli in 1911. This is a great line that sums up Italian strategy, “The Italians are besieging the desert. They have sat down beside it and called upon it to surrender.” 👏

I bought this teddy fur blanket from Amazon. It’s a tad over 4ft wide and a scouch under 6ft long -I think it’ll work for the skirmish games I have planned. It was the closest thing I could find in the US to what @adcpainting.bsky.social had recommended.

Obverse of the blanket, very thick. Reminds me of the carpet in the house I grew up in.

15mm unpainted soldiers on the reverse of the blanket. This side is less thick and I think will work well for drier, sparse grass.

Denture brushes are pretty handy for scrubbing paint off of old miniatures, after a soak in simple green.

I think I may have finished a project. 😳 But I don’t want to deal with what will probably be an hour of fussing with lighting to get good pictures, so more on this later.

Some Sunday gardening. I find static grass gets everywhere and into everything, so I do this bit over paper on the floor, rather than at my bench. Easier to clean up, even if it isn’t so easy on my knees and back.

Frederick @possumlad.bsky.social · 06/01/2026

This might be kinda cool. The movies 'Out of Darkness' (see it if you haven't), and 'Iceman', are some good inspiration for the period. (Although I can't speak to their accuracy 🤷‍♂️)

Bad news at work and in the world, so it’s time for a lot of tea and some hobby escapism. I’m returning to my long neglected Eritreans. They are so far my only project in 28mm.

1/ News from the Hobby Front. Two squads of Germans varnished & flocked. Leader and support teams still need greenery, but I haven’t yet decided how to do those to make them stand out on the table. For example, the squad leaders have a shrub on their base.

Chicken curry pie. This is my first time making my own crust and not that store bought stuff. I used a hot water crust crust, because it seemed simple and lard is delicious. Next time I need to brush with egg yoke. Goes well with potato salad.

Pallid looking savory pie with disconcerting hole in the center.

How deep can a Matilda wade? - rather deeply is the answer. Here, one prepped with just canvas over the hull deck and sealants, exceeds the 6' (1.83 m) depth. The turret wasn't even sealed but the tank still came through. The crew conversation is not recorded. 1/2 #Tanks #WW2
