My stopping off point on my way to do a book talk this evening. Stafford Castle was a Norman keep, rebuilt in 14thC, and knocked down by the Roundheads. They must have had plenty of spare powder, for every time I have written that😂. Well looked after by the local council 👏.

OTD in 1687, the Ottoman defenders of Athens surrendered. In the previous days, a shot from Venetian (and allied) besiegers blew up a powder magazine in the Parthenon. We are still arguing over where the remains should be viewed 😂. Some of my 28mm Venetians of the period.

OTD in 1396, the Battle of Nicopolis (in modern Bulgaria), saw a crusading allied army defeated by the Ottomans. Numbers and the battle description are contested, but Serbian reinforcements appear to have been decisive. So, some 15mm Serbian knights seem appropriate.
