This is the medical model of disability (which I'm happy to acknowledge is a good model for some disabled people, especially with chronic pain) whereas the social model puts the barriers squarely as a societal issue. In other words, let's remove the barriers to learning and belonging for all kids.

"Let's just be nice to all kids and teach them really well." The naivety in this is so delicious. Jim knows exactly what this means, in his schools. My interpretation 30 to 40 years ago might have led to quite different things going on in my classroom.

When I started teaching (almost 40 years ago) the Reception teacher had been there for 30 years. "How do you cope teaching the same thing all the time?" I asked. "There's always a child who needs an extra step to learn [perfectly obvious and simple thing]" How do we teach curiosity to teachers?

One thing I'll be sure to do is add WCAG to the senior leaders Send and inclusion CPD. And there is going to be a special section about the performative nonsense that is accessibility overlays. "Oh but think of the poor dyslexics who need a special font..." "What, only on THIS website???"
